Something Shrub said last week re Iraq is giving me the creeps...
Edited on Sat May-26-07 07:08 PM by piesRsquare
Yeah, okay, EVERYTHING Bush says about Iraq bothers, bugs, annoys, enrages and irritates me, but what he said recently regarding American deaths/casualties in Iraq gives me the "creeps", "heebie-jeebies", "jitters", etc.

From here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070526/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_memorial_day

U.S. Deaths Near Grim Memorial Day Mark

BAGHDAD - Americans have opened nearly 1,000 new graves to bury U.S. troops killed in Iraq since Memorial Day a year ago. The figure is telling — and expected to rise in coming months.

In the period from Memorial Day 2006 through Saturday, 980 soldiers and Marines died in Iraq, compared to 807 deaths in the previous year. And with the Baghdad security operation now 3 1/2 months old, even President Bush has predicted a difficult summer for U.S. forces.

"It could be a bloody — it could be a very difficult August," he said last week. (emphasis mine)

****
What's bugging me is: Why did Bush specify August? Why would August, in particular, be "difficult"? What's unique about August?

Or is there something I missed? Am I being overly weird and paranoid about this?

Any other thoughts?

1. Isn't that when Sy Hersh's sources said we were hitting Iran?
Wouldn't that be an interesting way to find out if his info was correct.

5. It's the month before September
which is the month petreaus' report comes out. IMO, they will blame the violence on August.

9. you're right - B*sh is laying the ground work to blame the Dems for
all the casualties between now and the end of August. He will say that the "insurgents and al Quada" are trying to make the Dems vote to stop funding the troops by killing a lot in August. Ahead of the Spetember funding bill.

Welcome to DU btw. :toast:

6. August is before September -- think about cramming for an exam
The kind of person who waits until the last minute to write their term paper -- that sort of thing.
Same here.

7. I noticed it too, pies, and it also gave me the creeps.
Not to mention the fact that it's totally illogical (wait, I'm talking about Bush, so of COURSE it's illogical): He needs the money, he needs the surge, he needs no deadlines because that will make things better, AND YET HE SAYS AUGUST IS GOING TO BE A VERY BLOODY MONTH????

Wanna tell me AGAIN how your "plan" is supposed to work, George?

8. September time table!
General Petraeus will probably have to really go for broke in August, to show progress in September?

10. After Bush said, "It could be bloody," he caught himself. That
didn't sound very good, and he quickly switched to "very difficult." Every American with a family member in Iraq should be appalled. He is forecasting the death or maiming of our own people. Yes, that will be "very difficult."

11. I hear dthat too and felt and thought it very cryptic. I know that the so-called report from
Patreaus in coming in September, but there's something fishy and scary about him singling out August and calling it "bloody".
