Church defends 'Jesus loves Osama' billboard

A SYDNEY church has called on people to pray for the world's most wanted terrorist, declaring "Jesus loves Osama" outside its doors.

The Central Baptist Church on George St yesterday defended the sign and said it was designed to convey that Christianity taught loving everyone.

"Osama is the head of terrorism. We are saying that Jesus Christ loves everyone in the world, even this man," said Church spokeswoman Hy Lam.

"The Bible says God loves everyone – even Osama bin Laden is included in that. All we are doing is sharing the gospel."

But Anglican Archbishop Peter Jensen said while he understood what the underlying message was, he had reservations about the way it had been represented.
