1. The wind off the lake has kept the snow away from Milwaukee
for hours. That's many inches of potential snow that didn't happen.

6. Feels like it will blow
the house down the hill and into the pond. Feeding horses this morning it was hard to stand up in it. Gotta go back out pretty soon and it is worse. At 7:00 the wind was a sustained 38 MPH with gusts of 46. 26 degrees with a -7 wind chill. Ahhhhh Kansas and it looks like it might be worse elsewhere. I hope everyone is OK out there. It was starting to spit sleet but then we really are not expecting much. At this point even sleet would be welcome moisture.

44. No bad roads here either
I don't think the little that came down stuck, did not have time. That wind could have ripped anything off the street!

Yes, just a small jacket outside one day to my entire winter, fat snowman work outfit the next. The cold is not bad if it is not windy, the wind is not bad if it is not cold but when they get together it really sucks.

Glad you are OK in KC. Looks like we are fine here just freaking cold :-)

to snow. The drivers here go crazy, not as bad as Nashville. (not as many hills)

Get your sled and head for Love circle. There should be a place there to slide.

11. I've been in the middle of it all day.
Snow drifted almost up to the windows, wind howling, nobody going anywhere. The airport (MSP) was closed for awhile, and that hardly ever happens. They couldn't even send the plows out on the highways because the visibility was so bad. The snow has let up a bit, and now it's going to get really, really cold.

20. Weather pattern looks like that often.
The main difference is a hurricane pulls together tighter due to a higher energy source and swirls the other direction.

35. it's the standard "comma" apperance of a mature temperate cyclone.
And hurricanes and temperate cyclones spin in the same direction, counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere.

temperate storms get their energy from temperature contrasts, while tropical storms get their energy from the latent heat of condensing water vapor.

43. Thanks
For some dumb reason I stated it's an opposite spin, but it's the same spin. I guess I had a high pressure zone (anti-cyclone) on my mind. I once took a semester of meteorology as a technical elective, which was fascinating and made watching the weather channel far more interesting. Sadly, if you don't use something much, it slips out of the mind. :-(

21. rain over here in central northern illinois....
but the winds are on the way. wind chill is going to be below 0. but i doubt it will top the record of 70 below wind chill in the late 70`s.

looks like another record cold december here in northern illinois. since 1871 chicago has recorded 10 decembers below "normal" the last 4 has been in the last 5 years.
