Whiner
Evidently, the word “whiner” has become one of the worst things you can call someone on DU without getting your post deleted. Having seen it so often, I’ve concluded it has come to mean:

A word used to belittle someone’s opinion.

A term of mockery used by those incapable of formulating an intelligent argument.

A way of calling another DUer an ass without calling him/her an ass.

I’ve never called anyone on DU or anywhere else a whiner. But I’ve often been called a whiner here and I consider those who use the term unworthy of a response.

There’s been much talk here on DU about rudeness. How about we add the word “whiner” to the list of rude terms?

And I’ll also be interested to see who is the first to call this post a whine.

3. If you keep adding words to the list of rude words not allowed on DU
No one will be able to post anywhere but in The Lounge. And then only on the cat and dog photo threads.

4. That was my grandmother's name. Spelled "Weiner."
She was, at 17, the first person in her sweatshop to walk out on strike for the ILGWU.

And my great grandfather's name. He spent a lot of time in Russian political prisons (which were the same as criminal prisons but different requirements and you could have weekend guests) for dumb stuff like handing revolutionary pamphlets to soldiers. If there was a fight in town, he was in the middle of it.

David Weiner doesn't have a grave because the Nazis disposed of him. So his name is on my grandmother's stone, Rose beloved daughter of David Weiner.

When someone says "Whiner" to you, maybe you should hear all the voices that were silenced before you.

6. Pulling the Holocaust into this post is despicable.

Anyone with any common sense would realize that the original posting has nothing to do with the name of your grandparents.

18. jfc, this is a forum and people add in stories all the time. If you don't want to read it,
ignore it. Having that bit as an incidental part of the story doesn't turn it "despicable". Good grief.

5. I hate that term.
It's a well known term the strong and powerful try to use against those who are not.

11. Oh stop your whining.
I heard it often growing up. At our house it was the first line of offense if anyone dared confront Mom about her emotional abuse. If that didn't work to shut you up then she'd move on to other tactics to shut you up, including locking you out of the house on the coldest night Michigan ever saw.

Some people I know really are whiners but I'd never call them that. That term is about one of the ugliest words I know.

13. That particular word is White House approved.
I'm sure it will be in widespread use on this forum until Robert Gibbs decides to pick up a thesaurus.

15. Agreed
Whenever I see someone name calling like this, usually I think that either the person is an idiot, or can't think up a good argument to counter someones point, so they have to resort to calling names like this one.

A word used by DU'er whining about whiners on DU.

The requisite un-rec has been applied.
