Filibuster 101 question - how long might Sanders talk before it works?
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 06:57 PM by RiverStone
I'll crowd source this question to DU

C-Span says he has been talking since 10:20 am EST - 8+ hours? He does get a break (or not)?

What needs to happen for this to turn into a successful event?

Kudos to Sanders for what he is doing!!!!

Thanks in advance DUers for the quick answer.

1. It's not a "real" filibuster, sadly. I don't know exactly why or what that means,
but that's what I've heard. :(

2. If he can shame 40 democrats/republicans to side with him, it WILL be a filibuster!

3. It won't work. If he's still talking on Monday, the presiding officer will cut him off midword
because they have 60 votes to do that. This is just theatrics.

4. I can blab like you wouldn't believe
8 hours is nothing for me. One of my brothers and I once had a phone conversation that lasted 22 1/2 hours. He's the only person I know that can out talk me.

Oddly enough, I used to be a really shy person especially when I was young.

5. If I remember the filibuster in the 50s correctly, it went on for days.
Maybe even weeks.
