Calling all DU Investigators: Can we find out who put a secret hold on the OPEN Government Act?
A bill called the OPEN Government Act has been locked down in the Senate by a secret hold. Public Citizen reports:

The bill in question is a bipartisan effort to update the seminal Freedom of Information Act to make the government more open and accountable. It recently overwhelmingly passed the Senate Judiciary Committee. The House version of the bill, “Freedom of Information Act of 2007,” passed on March 15 by 308 to 117. More than one hundred organizations and thousands of citizens have expressed support for the bills.

Yet, when Senators Leahy and Cornyn tried to bring the bill to a vote on the floor last Thursday, the vote was blocked by “Senator Anonymous.” Some Republican senator called the Minority Leader’s office and objected to a vote on the bill, but asked for anonymity and did not publicly state the reason for the hold.

What we know so far:
It's a Republican, so that takes 51 Senators out of it right there
Not Cornyn, now we're left with 48

1. Both of my Senators are Democrats.
But I will kick this...it is worthwhile

I dunno why I am thinking LOTT...anyone here have him as their Senator?

He can get pretty pissy when it comes to pork--and he'd do something like that if he didn't get the bit of bacon he wanted...

2. okay, here's an idea
Accuse each Pug senator of placing the hold. Use DU-ers in home states to write and call and complain about their senator placing this hold.

We would get some denials. That could narrow the field.

Anyhoo, we might as well accuse each one of them, just for the helluvit.

4. Jesus, the disgusting irony -- and it couldn't be anyone but a Repug
WTF is this "secret hold" crap and why is it allowed in a democracy that's supposed to be transparent?

P.S. I have no idea who it is or how to find out, but I'm sure someone will, and the offending and offensive traitor ought to be drummed out of the Senate AND the country for his bountiful anti-Americanism.

5. Lots have tried to find out before, right? Good luck and all.
Just not sure what DU'ers can do that others haven't managed to do.

He should just release the name in the name of Democracy. Or go home.

Enough of this privileged shit!!!

They get the good health care, they should have to suffer a bit to take advantage of it.

Cheers!

8. The gender slur is inappropriate.

Please consider adding gender neutral insults to your vocabulary. You'll piss a lot of people off here and derail a lot of threads otherwise.

From the DU Rules: ... members should avoid using racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise bigoted terminology. This includes gender-specific terms such ... "pussy," ... which are often inflammatory and inappropriate.
