Sanders blocking unemployment extension, tax cuts for the middle and lower class
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 05:35 PM by Still a Democrat
If you won't forgive Obama for the parts of the package you don't like - and hold him accountable for everything, all or nothing - you should do the same for Sanders.

If your take is Obama is in favor of tax cuts for the wealthy, then Sanders is guilty of blocking unemployment extensions and tax cuts for the lower and middle class.

4. No. He is protecting us all with everything he's got.
BTW, the middle-class cuts don't exist if the rich cuts don't sunset. They will be eaten up by the huge increase in fees and fares and tolls and everything else you have to pay for. So stop thinking you might lose your benefit. You were never going to get anything.

5. Baloney. Most unemployed people don't get UI
and if these tax cuts are extended, we can kiss job creation good-bye.

We won't have to worry about tax cuts for us, either, because we have no j.o.b.s.

20. An important point
The system is rigged against the worker such that you only get unemployment in certain narrow circumstances. The people who do get are more likely to have been in good jobs. McDonalds and Walmart have teams of attorneys to fight unemployment claims.

What, he blocks this for a day? They're still in effect. Reid's got it planned for Monday anyway. I'm happy Bernie has the guts to stand up to his decision to allow welfare for the wealthy, cuts to Social Security funding, and the institution of what will become defacto unsustainable spending, leading to out-of-control deficits and eventually the defunding of social programs.

10. You're no Democrat
If you are not backing Sanders.

Obama and the Rethuglicans WORKED together to get this tax cut deal through. It gives away too much to the rich. That tax cut needs to be removed. I'd rather pay more in taxes and let it expire, and make sure that the Rethuglicans are marked forever for being the obstructionist.

16. Obama is merely taking money from one group of at-risk Americans
to give to another group of at-risk Americans. That is inherently wrong.
You think gutting Social Security FOR A LIFETIME is less important than not giving someone unemployment insurance for 13 weeks?
Do you think that taxing people who make LESS than $20k a year(about $400 a week) to assure some rich fucker a million dollar tax break?
Bernie is trying to help ALL of the at-risk groups (and it can be done!) instead of singling out the elderly and the poorest who are the least able to fight back and taking away from them to give to that group--because guess what?
The MAJORITY of those on Unemployment Insurance are going to see a tax increase because THEY are going to fall in the $10k-$20K tax bracket? Do you simply believe that was a mistake?

18. I have come over to the Presidents side on this. I think he actually
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 05:51 PM by doc03
came out better than the Republicans. They got their tax cuts for the rich but he got more concessions from them than anyone thought possible. First of all people on unemployment don't have to worry about being cut off for 13 months. Then the payroll tax break is an added bonus on top of keeping their tax cuts. One problem I do have is cutting the payroll tax will give the Republicans more fuel to cut SS in the future. But if you get the unemployment down more people will be paying into SS and that will make up the difference. I also think there should have been something for the people currently receiving SS. You can't always get everything you want.
Another thing the way the media and the President are spinning this it appears like it is the Democrats are the bad guys trying to keep people from getting tax cuts and cutting off unemployment. I heard several people commenting on it today and that seems to be the way the pubic perceives it. To most people it looks like the Republicans are trying to cut our taxes and extend unemployment and it is the Democrats trying to stop it.

They are things the GOP wanted.

24. Yes but they will all help stimulate the economy and
promote job growth. I have heard Democrats suggest a payroll tax holiday for months now. The accelerated depreciation will encourage employers to invest and create jobs. The payroll tax cut and the child credit will both put money into working peoples hands as will the unemployment extension. Working people will spend that money and it will create economic activity that will produce jobs.

25. Agreed but they're still not concessions from the GOP.
They're things the GOP supports. And IMO the stimulative effect of the payroll tax cut is not worth the long term threat to SS.

28. The thing on SS bothers me too, I figure give it a
chance if it works and creates more jobs then next year there will be more people paying in. Another worry next year when the Republicans take over they may want to make it permanent then we do have big trouble.

19. Really?

You want to help the unemployed? Take the money we aren't giving away to the already wealthy and start a public works program which hires the unemployed directly. That would be the best way to spur the economy and the most efficient use of our taxpayer dollars.

If you think Sanders is against unemployment extension and tax cuts, then I guess we can say that your are in favor of tax bonuses for the wealthy.

This is a very dim witted OP.
