KO: IAW president read the tea leaves on Obama in 2008
Keith just interviewed the Intl Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Tom Buffenbarger, and gives him the opportunity to say, "I told you so." (Keith's words.)

Buffenbarger's speech from 2008 campaign. It starts getting really good around 1:20

1. This bullshit...
Obama fought in 2008 to won the WH and he had to overcome every lie in the book by the repub attach machine... He fought for HCR like no other president in 50 years...other presidents gave up in 5 minutes.

6. He fought to win the White House! That's true! He fought for Barack Obama.
I've seen him fight for Goldman Sachs, Privatized Charter Schools, Health Insurers, and an Afghanistan Surge. I've yet to see him fight for the American people.

10. Who do you think he is fighting for now?
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 08:46 PM by dennis4868
For the middle class and lower class whose taxes will go up (50% higher for the lowest tax bracket) significantly during a tremendous economic downturn of a deal is not agreed to with the repubs.... This would be devestating! He is fighting for us but has to deal with the fucking senate fillubuster so he has to compromise....why can't people understand that?

In the last 50 for the little guy...he is taking a major hit from his own party right now because he refuses to take any chances of not having unemployment insurance and tax increases for the middle class and lower class people....repubs have accomplished their goal of getting people mad at obama...they got you and so many other liberals.

20. You know he is pretending?
Wow, you are in his mind. Okay, what is he thinking right NOW? No other president fought for health care for those with peeexisting conditions and for preventative care benefits and for credit card companies to play fair (and I could go on and on)....yes, he is a fool . What do you call the other presidents and politicians who were scared shit to do these things?

2. He's correct on Obama here. Obama is no friend to the unions.
Clinton didn't really lift a finger to help my union struggle, though, either.

11. I just saw it live..and it hurt, but as you said, the truth often does.
Watching that old speech made me feel like I did watching all the protests during pres shit-for-brains' inauguration in
"Fahrenheit 9/11" . I was really pissed that there had been no coverage of that by the MSM at the time.

In Mexico the seating president choses his successor by fingering him, pointing at him... hence El Dedazo...

It was that way until the PRI finally lost

17. President Obama
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 09:47 PM by LatteLibertine
mostly gives soaring inspiring speeches and hasn't done much real fighting. The way he never championed the public option for health care reform is a good example. So was cutting a deal with big pharma.

Essentially, I agree with Buffenbarger. Hillary Clinton likely would have been doing more actual fighting on the front lines.

23. Krugman similarly pegged Obama early on, during the primaries
i forget what the issue was, think it concerned health care; K noted that O's starting position was already one of deep compromise and capitulation and wondered if O understood negotiation

24. Buffenbarger read the tea leaves, my ass.
We're seriously giving credence to a guy who referred to Obama's supporters as Prius-driving, latte-drinking, Birkenstock wearers?

Really?

Tom Buffenbarger is a blowhard. He was offering that critique of Obama as a means of calling Hillary Clinton a fighter. People here used to kick Clinton's ass for NOT being a fighter, giving in on issues like the Iraq War Authorization.

The grass is always greener.

If you don't believe poets can be fighters and vice-versa, I urge you to read about the Solidarity movement in Poland. Up against the Soviet Union, writers/students and blue collar union workers combined forces to protest the Soviets' economic policies.

Tom Buffenbarger can kiss my ass and then pass me a latte. Caramel.

Stupid line, I agree, but 4 fucking minutes revealing that this guy is conflict averse.

That trumps the latte line...

27. Indeed, there were a handful...
.. on the political front who early recognized the inadequacies of our "progressive" President and predicted, with high acuity, just what an abject failure that the man and his "team" were going to be.

Even I held hope and for a time, ignored them. It became increasingly impossible do so over the last year - and even more so now. Thanks to this feckless wonder, this is a one term presidency and a disaster for our country that will impact us for the next thirty years.

So a speech insulting Candidate Obama's supporters in 2008 is suppose to reinforce that the President is weak? A video of a guy supporting Hillary, who lost to Obama, who went on to kick McCain's ass?

The President has racked up significant achievements in his first two years. Republicans are all bluster.
