GOP rewards senior vote with benefits cuts

So check it:

That's from the national exit poll in the 2010 elections last month. Compare to the 2008 results:

Seniors weren't just more motivated to vote in 2010 (from 15 percent to 21 percent of the total), but they swung 22 points in the GOP's direction -- the largest by far of any group. Apparently, they didn't want Obama's death panels targeting them. Or something.

So how does the GOP repay seniors for their election-winning vote?

The House has rejected a Democratic effort to pay Social Security recipients $250 to make up for the lack of a cost-of-living increase for next year.

Democrats argued that the payment was needed to offset the hardships of seniors facing a second consecutive year without an increase.

But Republicans contended that the nation couldn't afford the estimated $14 billion cost of the one-time payment, and that the two-year freeze comes after seniors received a significant boost in 2009.

Got that, seniors? The nation can "afford" over $700 billion in new debt by giving millionaires an unecessary extension of their budget-busting tax cuts, but NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Too bad only 38 percent of you were smart enough to see that.

1. Where do you get $700-billion?
Only $140-billion of the deal is for the tax cuts for rich people.

2. $700 billion is the cost over the next 10 years.
Many people assume, reasonably, that the tax cuts for the rich will not end after 2012.

4. $700 billion is the figure the Democrats have been quoting
extending the tax cuts on the rich would cost over ten years. Do you really think they won't be renewed again in two years? The figure I have heard about this most recent tax giveaway is $900 billion over just two years! So when the tax cuts on the rich is renewed again in two years you have a total of $1.32 trillion added to the debt over the next ten years.

$140 billion= tax cuts for rich next two years.
$760 billion= the additional costs of the Obama/Rethug plan
$560 billion= when the tax cuts on the rich are renewed again in 2 years.

Total cost over ten years $1.32 trillion dollars.

That is using the numbers Democrats have been claiming for months.

Even if the tax cuts aren't renewed two years from now you still have $900 billion added to the deficit and it seems they always low ball those numbers.

7. Yes, and they've been quoting that in an effort to make it seem like that $700-B is for two years.

Why stop there? Why not make it $1.4 trillion over twenty years? If you're going to assume that tax cuts that are supposed to last 2 years are going to actually last 10, you may as well go as high as you can.

As far as adding to the deficit - thanks for buying the RW line of deficits über alles!

The fact is that the government needs to be stimulating the economy right now because the private sector isn't. That by definition adds to the deficit. There's nothing wrong with adding to the deficit if doing so gets the economy going again.

Spending $140B on the poison pill of tax cuts for the rich is worth swallowing when almost 80% of the stimulus in the bill isn't directed at the rich.

Just today's stories!

*Republicans steadfast in loyalty to wealthiest Americans, say they're willing to put another 2 million Americans out in the cold

*Republicans court senior vote, then walk away, blocking a Democratic effort to pay SS recipients $250

*Party that runs on 9/11 heroism filibusters the 9/11 Health Bill
