5. Yep
And wasn't the younger Al Sadr also publishing an anti-Saddam newspaper when we invaded?

3. He was in Iraq and 'well regulated' by Saddam.
I think we can now see why Saddam had to rule with the ironfist that he did.

Nothing short of ethnic cleansing and/or another dictator will restore Iraq to some sense of order.

6. Al Sadr came out BECAUSE Bush and Co. want him out there right now
Summer is around the corner. There is a deadline, September is only 3 months away....etc. (hint hint).

14. As well as stupid and ineffectual.
Somewhat less comprehensible than the wave/particle business.

12. Saddam only tried to kill Bush's Daddy. In Sadr's case, Saddam succeeded.
Offed his uncle too. The "Sadr movement" and "Sadr city" are actually named for the uncle, I think? Something like that. This Sadr is junior but hey, he's all they've got. He's done a lot more with what he inherited than anyone thought possible.

11. Saddam made sure the radical scumbags didn't start any shit.
They threatened his power and position.

Best case scenario would have been the U.S. cutting a back-room deal with Saddam, which he WOULD have gladly accepted, and stayed the Hell out of Pandora's Box.

13. Saddam was running the country.
Which, in the case of Iraq, means violently suppressing violent opposition.

If this kind of opposition existed in the US our government would do everything Saddam did.
