Raw Story: hacktivists claim to post MasterCard numbers online
Sorry if this has already been posted

Operation Payback, the hacktivist group taking revenge on groups and individuals seen as enemies of WikiLeaks, has published a list of what it says are 10,000 MasterCard credit card numbers.

The anonymous hackers earlier in the day attacked the websites of both MasterCard and Visa, in retaliation for the companies' freezing of WikiLeaks' account.

2. Except that those numbers were just made up gibberish
Both Operation Payback and Mastercard confirmed that.

9. MasterCard is a 5, Visa is a 4, and Amex is a 3. First software check you run.

4. Foolish.
Hack the company, but why expose the people who use the cards? Since Assange was using them, obviously not everyone is a horrible person who deserved to have their information exposed to the public.

This is the trouble with 'hacktivists' - they don't know when to stop.

8. Pretty fucked up 'joke'.
If hacking the site interfered with anyone's access to money or credit they needed to pay a bill, that's pretty fucked up too.

They shouldn't be targeting random people like that. Even falsely boasting that they did is rather sick.

6. These are hackers they are going to do what they want
They are loosely organized I don't think anyone has control over what they are doing. Think of it as social hacking, instead of social networking.

The numbers could be completely made up nonsense. They could be a list of cc# numbers that were hacked years ago.
