One more reason that the payroll tax cut is a bad trade for the making work pay tax cut
In many states, including but not limited to, NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, MN, WI, and IA, public employees and teachers are not in social security and thus will see a tax increase which is the last thing we need in states in which we took a shellacking in the last election. I would love to see the Senate or House switch the making work pay back in. Full disclosure, I actually get a bit better of a break from the payroll holiday than from making work pay. About 1k vs 800.

1. States where we took a shellacking, huh...
Well, they would have Republicans to thank for that then, wouldn't they? Perhaps a light will come on. They can't blame Obama because THEIR 'Pubbie buds screwed them over.

2. I don't understand this comment -

3. They lose the making work pay tax cut
and get nothing in return. Their taxes will have gone up. They don't pay into SS so they don't get any SS pay cut.

4. There was a tax credit that is expiring
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 09:10 PM by Travis_0004
The 'making work pay' tax credit was valid for 2 years. 2009, and 2010. It will not be active in 2011, so your 2011 taxes will be 400.00 higher than your 2010 taxes (assuming you are single, 800 if married).

If you make 20,000, then the 2% Social security savings will be 400.00. If you make more than 20k, then the 2% pay cut is a better deal. If you make less than 20k, then the making work pay was a better deal. (assuming you are single). If you don't pay SS, then either way, you pay 400 more in taxes than the year before.

Either way, somebody is going to find something to bitch about.

5. I'm sure our teachers will be thrilled.
I'm going to make sure they all know who to thank. The same guy who ramrodded "ed reform" on them all.
