The thing that made me maddest about the President's Press Conference
The man used a tone in reprimanding his own Progressive base that he would never use in addressing the opposing Party. He talked to Democratic Progressives as if they were ingrates, unruly children incapable of adult though. Yet you put him in the same room with Republicans, Republicans who would have him out in the street if they had their way, put him in the room with them and its all polite and sweetness. I just fumed.

3. Maybe he thought we could take it?
Instead of running around crying about being insulted the way Republicans often do?

It's like talking to someone as an adult (progressives) and talking to them like they are children (conservatives)

5. Because the Republican act insulted continuously - but what the President did was truly insulting
Republicans have been playing that card every moment since they found it was the quick ticket to daddy's wallet. What Obama did was absolutely insulting and aimed directly at his own supporters. I do not mind him slapping the enemy, what made me mad was when he spit in his supporter's faces.

20. haha, yes. Maybe we should get even MORE confrontational. You've heard of a
'Man's man'?

Apparently we are supposed to be the 'Wimp's wimps'!

He has shown the only thing he responds to is tough talk. We need to be much TOUGHER on him, than the R's are.

23. there's no comparison between the right's
insanity and a progressive's disappointment in their elected leaders.

We are not 2 sides of the same coin.

Insulting comment.

6. I didn't watch the interview, but that would be an interesting observation.
If that is correct, that would not be good, the 'adult' delusion is a tough one, it has both ego and arrogance in it, and a limited view of values of other thoughts.

Treating people like children has many concepts and thoughts on it. For instance it is a way to try and get them to act like children. It is also a control or 'take charge' type of attitude.

If you are correct that would be a bad thing, since it would be seeing maturity through the Republican lens.

And that would not be the best thing.

If you can think the population is 'children' then you can not have to tell them what is going on. Posted about that before, it can create ideas of secrecy.

Basically if you can get someone to think some segment 'can't handle the truth' or 'isn't mature enough' or 'isn't smart enough' then you no longer have to explain or discuss your point of view.

With parent view, you can disregard other opinions by a superiority claim, not by argument of reason.

To defeat that delusion you only have to know that if they do not think like you do, then it is your role to explain it to them, if you can not, then you need an apparatus that can, or maybe learn how they are correct. Secrecy takes the other route and believes in removing knowledge or keeping people from seeing what is going on.

People that have 'idealistic' ideas are often called children by those that think you have to be tough and mean sometimes.

I have posted a few videos with that slant, but my multiple comments I think shows I don't think of people that way.

10. I didn't see it as 'parent vs. child' as much as "family".
There is a level of trust and expectation that we place in those who we call "family" that we don't have for outsiders. We have the knowledge of shared goals and personal strengths that doesn't exist with those outside the circle. A familiarity if you will.

I encourage you to watch the conference. I'm sure it's available online somewhere. I didn't get the scolding parent view of it at all.

19. Some of that is empathy circles. Created by superiority complex
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 09:14 AM by RandomThoughts
If you only care for family, and also decide that the only people that can be 'family' are people that help you and your group. That is not the best of situations. Or if you unfairly treat 'family' better then that would be the reason for secrecy.

I got a pretty good idea about family doctrine. I also know much of cats doctrine.

We have the knowledge of shared goals and personal strengths Tell the world what those goals are, and what that group considers strength. They are to scared to do that.

And why don't they, because they hide in secrecy out of fear. LOL, they are not strong nor brave, even as they think what they do shows bravery or strength.

It is easy to see the 'family' in people of your own groups. For instance I have heard mentioned by a couple people that they don't see 'things' in some people, so think they those people have nothing.

From my observation some people can only see the good in what they consider 'their family' What is it when you can see many many 'families' and many many groups, and see most are the same with different core strengths, and most look at other groups sometimes like you explain in families concept? I think that is their groups or views of groups getting smaller and smaller

If you are talking about 'the family' much of their concepts of 'power makes good' can be shown wrong.

It is true some people have less knowledge of different things, or see things in different ways, but that does not make them better or worse.

Song Maybe. :D

Great add to the concept by another poster about empathy circles and what I think family should be.

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)

And once again about function not data, so not about any person or group, but about concepts in many people and groups. Not about Republicans, Democrats nor about President Obama.

If the idea was against 'the family', or against President Obama, or Against Republicans, or Against Democrats, that would be silly,

:loveya: too.

For All People.

9. I guess you missed the meeting he had with the republicans
last year then:

http://themoderatevoice.com/60982/obamas-debate-with-house-republicans-a-game-changer-or-not/

Did you ever have a coach or a captain of a team talk to you about why your team wasn't succeeding? They probably were more blunt with YOU then with the opposing team. Mine were.

I can tell you that I'm harder on my own sons when I'm addressing them than I am on other kids. (not kids anymore) Because I expect more from them. They KNOW better. Just as I can be much more direct with my friends when they let me down than I am with strangers or casual acquaintances. I place a level of trust in those who call themselves 'friend'-

I think there was some of that in his words, but I also think that there is a measure of guilt that is making people feel indignant. If there was no truth in what he said to what you call "the progressive base" it would have pretty much rolled right off.

If there was no merit in what he said, there'd be no reason to be upset. He spoke the unpleasant truth about how impossible it is to get what we ALL (Pres.O included) want to accomplish.

His words to the republicans early on in the conference weren't all polite and sweetness.

I think we are becoming a nation addicted to anger and indignation. I'd like to see THAT change at least within our own party, it starts with us individually.

12. There is a reason to be upset. 70% of Americans are against tax cuts for the rich.
He had enough support to hold strong. The country is pretty much united against tax cuts for the rich. He just fucked us, basically.
This argument that taxes are bad for the economy is bullshit. Taxees are really really good things. They are how you pay for food for the poor and health care adn roads, and all the things our country desperately needs. This money is not going to be spent by the wealthy. It is going to sit in banks. probably in other countries.

18. the public may be behind tax cuts for the rich, but they aren't the ones
who get to vote in congress. THAT'S a fact. The public was against war with Iraq, and look how far we got with that. The public voted to elect Pres. Gore, even without the twisted florida 'count'- it isn't about what the majority of the public wants, you need to put that fairy tale to bed.

It's about those who manage to get elected- and the power they wield as congresspeople. We SHOULD have had the power given the Democratic majority we had, to actually DO some things that "we" the public wanted. But the reality is that there are many representatives who don't vote the way WE "the people" want.

He didn't have "enough support" to WIN. Holding strong doesn't mean winning. The republicans made it absolutely clear that NOTHING at all would happen until they got their tax cuts. They weren't kidding. No unemployment benefits, no DADT, no START, no DREAM, no help for middle class families, NOTHING na-da. The reality is that come January, the republicans only get stronger.

My state's Dem congressmen will be replaced by two republican idiots- and the senate seat asshole Judd Gregg vacated will be filled by our version of Sarah Palin.

I'm angry- hell yes I'm angry, but I realize that the blame for where we are and why we are stuck here does NOT lay with Pres. Obama. He is one part of this, and is doing his best- I can't say the same for our elected representatives, or our OWN ability to mobilize the public to demand that the legislature stop playing their congressional theater, and start DOING things for the people who keep this country moving, healthy, educated, fed, safe, warm, clothed, alive.

he can talk however he wants to republicans because in the end he caves in to them. its just a show.

with the progressive left he really means it. he NEVER concedes or fights for our positions. and then he insults us.

obama has no call whatsoever to talk down to me. he's not my coach. we're apparently not even on the same team.

21. your attitude is pretty childish imo. You may think that he "talked down "
to you, that's your issue. He explained why he believes this plan, which he admitted was NOT what he personally wanted either, was necessary. If you are insulted, that's unfortunate. It's the reality of the situation.
He is the president of the country. If you wanted a dictator or another GWBush you're not only out of luck, you didn't listen or pay attention to what he said as a candidate. Posturing is ok, sometimes taking a hard line stand on an issue IS the only way to go, and the fact that you will likely fail doesn't matter- THIS isn't one of those times. We are about to get an even more republican legislature, and the country is still teetering on the edge of chaos.

I don't understand how short sighted many people who want to claim the "progressive left" title seem to be. My own personal views place me way off to the left, but I realize that there is a very large portion of this country that not only isn't they are diametrically opposed.

In my opinion all the indignation and posturing about how Pres. Obama addressed his own party is childish. He's telling us we don't have what we need to be where we want to be, and we are telling him he's a "meanie", and we're gonna take our dolls and tea sets and go home. How mature is that?

26. no, that's just stupid.
i could pick your response apart word by word but it's not worth it. you're full of shit, just like the president, but it's clear neither of you will never be convinced of it.

if this is your position, that we just gotta take a bawling out from the coach, you're not left, no matter how much you claim it.

i suggest you stay with obama with YOUR dolls and YOUR tea set, and have a ball. very appropriate for the game playing going on now. enjoy your imaginary tea with the president.

i don't play with dolls and tea sets. never did.

22. I've watched it twice. I don't see it the same way as you- If you think
his calling them out on their "holy grail" and his pointing out that the only issue they counted on, DESPITE the public support to END tax-cuts for the rich was speaking agreeably and gently to them, I'm not sure I understand how you measure your reactions.

I was personally very GLAD that he stated very clearly that the republicans were willing to hurt EVERYONE- especially the most vulnerable in this country in order to be sure that they got their 'wealthy tax cuts'. He said that THEY were holding the American people HOSTAGE, which (their own code word for terrorist) is hardly talking sweet.

I encourage you to watch it again. If 'we' can't take the hard truth, then it is WE who are the weaklings so many here accuse the President of being. It's time for us to quit killing our own, and work together- as best this motley group can- to do the best we can- for the sake of EVERYONE.

they would drag him behind their pickup, pour gasoline on the open wounds and string him up to a cross erected in the White House and set fire to him.
Let's call how they feel about him what it really is.
The fact that he isn't fighting THAT mentality every day and calling those out that are capable of these atrocities every day is beyond me.
He needs to understand one very simple thing. WE are the ONLY friends he's got.
Only a stupid and arrogant man would be foolish enough to piss on that.
