A strange computer question

I recently had my main profile on my laptop become corrupted. I did a work around by creating another profile and loading my bookmarks into it. Here is my problem. I can't get at any of the files I saved while operating on that profile. For some reason the profile is now not accessible. So, any suggestions as to what I might do. I tried setting up a desk top folder, no dice. I tried to email it, no dice. I also can't get at the main adminstrator profile.

Turbo Navigator should allow you to get at those programs.

2. Logon as "administrator"

The user "administrator" has access to all resources on your computer.

3. Did you try rolling back your hard drive?

XP makes that simple and it might solve your issue.

4. Aw, I thought it was going to be a question about a strange computer...

Assuming, because Microsoft pretty much owns 95% of the market, you are running Windows XP, you may be able to get to your files by looking in C:\Documents and Settings\, in the folder named whatever the corrupted profile was named. Try the freeware if that's not the case.

5. Have you made sure all your hidden files can be seen?..Also...

Start
Run
Type in SFC /scannow

XP will check your files for you

7. I did set the hidden files to be seen.

I now can log into my main profile so go figure.

6. You need to log in as administrator.

Then go to the properties for the old profile folder (right click on the folder name in an explorer window. It's the last option. Chose the security Tab, then advanced settings, then owner. Now take ownership of all the files. Then move them into the shared files folder. Now log in under your new profile and move the files into your personal folder.

Alternately if you don't care about the privacy of the files, just shove them anywhere outside of the Documents and Settings folder tree once you have taken ownership.

8. Can you "restore" a laptop like a PC>

Norton also has a go back....you can go back to the info before it was corrupted.

9. If stuff's really corrupted you can always try to get it off with a Linux live CD.

Like Knoppix. I've had this work with windows boxes where all else failed.
