WH lawyer in December regarding USA firings: "Looks like this is going to get messy"

http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0525/p02s02-usju.html?page=2

<snip>

Meanwhile, internal Justice Department documents released in conjunction with Goodling's appearance provided some fresh details about the unease that arose quickly at high levels of the department after last year's firings became public.

"Looks like this is going to get messy," read a Dec. 28, 2006, e-mail from Christopher Oprison, a White House lawyer, to Goodling and Mr. Sampson as stories began to appear about the appointment of Tim Griffin as US attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Mr. Griffin, a former aide to White House political director Karl Rove, also appeared quite upset by press articles questioning whether politics had played a role in his appointment.

"This is wrong in so many ways," fumed Griffin in a January e-mail to Justice officials that included a story about his new job.

1. "Wrong," Mr. Griffin? But not inaccurate?

2. I hope Griffin's direct role in the caging lists will be investigated very quickly.

Does anyone know if Greg Palast ever met with Conyers, Leahy, etc., with his copies of these 500 e-mails he has, in his hands? How many members of Congress have the slightest clue what a caging list is?

Will someone invite Palast to sit in the witness chair and present his evidence? Will Tim Griffin receive a patty-cake invitation, with assurances of no subpoenas, no oath, no transcript, and no public admission?

While all of the other cr@p that's going on, Tim Griffin is still sitting in the catbird seat in the USA office in Arkansas, running the latest version of voter suppression tactics off his keyboard and blackberry.

The caging lists are critical to blowing this wide open.

And another question I have. Who, pray tell, will insist that we need a substantial number of special prosecutors to report for duty, to investigate this gang of racketeers??

Here is what http://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20030718.html">John Dean wrote on July 18, 2003 about this very subject.

.....

So egregious and serious are Bush's misrepresentations (in his January, 2003 State of the Union address) that they appear to be a deliberate effort to mislead Congress and the public. So arrogant and secretive is the Bush White House that only a special prosecutor can effectively answer and address these troubling matters. Since the Independent Counsel statute has expired, the burden is on President Bush to appoint a special prosecutor - and if he fails to do so, he should be held accountable by Congress and the public.

In making this observation, I realize that some Republicans will pound the patriotism drum, claiming that anyone who questions Bush's call to arms is politicizing the Iraqi war. But I have no interest in partisan politics, only good government - which is in serious trouble when we stop debating these issues, or absurdly accuse those who do of treason.

.....

And finally, after 6.5 years of rage over our stolen 2000 election, ramping up to yet another level in the past 2 days, here is a message from my household:

Get on the stick, Congress. Stop cowering the corner. Get your asses up and do your FU#K**G JOBS.

For all of you who voted for yet another blank check for Dear Leader to escalate his illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, you are looking at losing your jobs.

Sabra, these questions aren't aimed at you. Just reading this article you posted just ignited my fuse one more time. Thank you for digging the truth out yet again.
