1. No
because part of our job is to save our party from the sellouts who still run it, rather than abandon it.

2. No.
As individuals, it might be time to become defenders of democratic principles, of truth, of the constitution, instead of defenders of the Democratic Party.

As a group, though, the site owners have never pretended to be anything but Democratic Party faithful. It's their site, and they created it to identify with the party. They left a back door open for "other progressives," but don't pretend that progressive politics take priority over party politics.

It's problematic, of course, when defending and/or supporting the party has to take precedence over truth, justice, and integrity. I'm always hoping that DU will hold the Democratic Party accountable for those democratic principles, those truths, the constitution, that will keep the party a viable choice for people.

3. yes - and if the Democratic establishment wants to keep our votes they will have to change
I think the Dick/Lieberman/Cheney Dems take our support for granted. Time to shake them up a bit and remind them who their base is.

5. Either this board has some representation of Democrats or it's not going to be worth my time
Thankfully there are still folks here who aren't running away from the party just because they lost one vote on one supplemental appropriations bill.

9. there are some of us still here

with ya amid the chaos. I was a Democrat long before I found DU and have seen the Democratic party go through some real highs and lows (the name, Monica, comes to mind:eyes:) in the last few decades. I think much of the anger, aside from the obvious bill passage, is just pure effing frustration. Frustration at having to live in this country while it is being pillaged by this incompetent and corrupt administration. However, I'm with you. It's time to kick the shit off our shoes and keep going. Dwelling in the misery only keeps us from reaching our goal.

I'm gonna hang in here at DU 'cause I think this site is a valuable resource (and I feel like it's my 2nd home after being here for 5 years) however, I may have to use the hide option --something I've never done before;)

6. I kinda like it.
Although the distinction is a fine one.

It's the owners of the site who have decided that it would be a partisan one. "Democratic" ostensibly includes all those who believe in democracy.

ProgressiveUndreground sounds nice too.

But it aint' gonna happen.

Unless you start up your own board...

8. Maybe you should start such a board. If it's not DemocraTIC Underground it's not
worth it to me.

10. It's crap like this that makes people NOT to want to vote
If you were an average non-political person looking for a direction on politics, what you would read on this board is that the dems are just as bad as the repubs. Some woman called in to Randi yesterday and said that the solution is to not vote.

Here's the thing, saying Nader(yuck-traitor) was right and that there is no difference between dems and repubs, continues the misconception that all politicians are corrupt, so why vote.

I swear, there are some people on this board who act like 3 year olds, who stomp and whine when they don't get their way. It is one thing to have constructive criticism and quite another to keep ragging on the dem party because they don't embrace every thing you do. I'm sorry, but the party does not revolve around YOU. Our reps represent a diverse population, which in most cases they will not agree on everything. We have no idea what these reps have heard in their offices from their citizens. And to castigate them for not doing your bidding is very childish.

I wish some of you people would live in the real world (and you know who you are), where NOTHING is black or white, but is always in shades of gray.
