To everyone slamming Obama as a Republican, or perpetuating the third-party Naderite nonsense...
I saw a thread here asking what the difference would be between Obama and McCain. I will post here the same thing I posted in that thread.

If we had President McCain, we wouldn't have ended combat operations in Iraq. Or have a timeline for withdrawal from Afghanistan. Or the banning of recission. Or the extension of SCHIP. Or banning pre-existing conditions. Or banning lifetime caps. Or repealing DADT. Or passing the Lily Ledbetter act. Or appointing two new left-leaning women to the Supreme Court. Or reversed the Bush restrictions on stem cell research. Or passed the recovery act which saved millions of jobs. Or passed the Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act to stop fraud and waste in defense procurement. Or initiated the closure of Gitmo. Or expanded Medicaid to 133% of the poverty level. Or expanded hate-crime protections. Or set up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Or...

I could go on like this for awhile.

1. Thanks for the truth. It sure beats the Chicken Little posts filling up DU.
Please, people, try not to show your hand too early. I'm here for the entertainment value and we have a long way to go until 2012.

17. If you are really serious
Then you have a real problem seeing the facts in front of you. Now if you meant this as sarcasm that's one thing but you really feel this way...! Anyone who thinks McCain wouldn't be worse really needs some help! No matter what you or anyone else thinks about the president, he is a million times better than that asshole McCain, even on Obma's worst day, he beats dipshit MCain, and his side kick Palin the moron!

3. Thank you
It seems the right wing campaign to turn the left against itself is working. Obama is not a god no matter what some people here thought in 2008 he is a man and although we don't like it he is going to make mistakes. He is also going to have triumphs. We need to stop this negativity and crying. I used to be a very negative person and I was miserable, I have made a great effort this last year to be more positive and my life is a whole lot better. I suggest we all try it.

5. I was going to suggest someone reposting the massive list of things DONE
by this administration, and asking the person who wants to equate Obama with McCain to mark the ones that McCain would've done, since they're so very similar, you know, except for the Palin factor.

I am sure the local trolls and Obama haters will jump in and urec this post, but what you said is a fact, and no matter how much people "THINK" he hasn't done enough, he has done one hell of a lot for being in office only about 2 years! Sure things could have been better, but not with a republican party saying NO to everything the president wanted to do, even if the ideas had republican support in the past, and least we not forget the democrats, blue dogs, who need to be voted out next election, who also did very little to help the president get things done!

Thanks for posting, we need more post like yours!

8. Perhaps there are some that are that extreme, but certainly...
I can not imagine anyone seriously believing McCain would have been better. As tempting a s third party challenge or primary challenge might be, I think history shows that would clinch Obama's defeat in 2012.

I simply want to know what happened to the campaign promises (not the projected viewpoints that some of us placed on him or our unrealistic expectations), but the overtly stated political philosophy. What is causing this 180 degree change and a failure to even try to fight for what he had stated were his principles and priorities?

What are our considered options? (Not our kneejerk rhetoric, but a real considered, thoughtful approach to protecting SS, Medicare, the Middle Class, and all of those supposed sacred values that Obama acts as though are now open to compromise). If he won't fight for us, what ARE our options?

I'm not here to bash Obama. I'd like nothing better than for someone to point out some strategy that might be at play or alternatively a means to press Obama back to the stances we thought we'd elected him to defend.

Folks can do the "Obama is a Republican", "we need to primary Obama," "Obama is responsible for every bad thing that has ever happened" bit and nothing happens.

You can post why that's untrue and YOUR post will be the one to get deleted. What's the point, really?

36. Opinions are great things.
Everyone is entitled to have one.

You could go on, as you said - but I'm glad you didn't, because unsubstantiated opinion that presents itself as hard fact gets tedious in very short order . . . and that's what you wrote.

Do you have a crystal ball that shows you what McCain would or would not have done? No. You have an opinion.

38. I don't see that he really ended combat operations in Iraq.
He can say what he wants to, but the REASON we have troops over there is FOR combat. It's a misnomer to say that it's the "end of combat operations." Just try telling that to any of our troops who've been shot/killed by snipers/"friendly fire"/"terrorists" since the "end."
