CNN’s Anderson Cooper Calmly DESTROYS Birther " Logic "

" CNN's Anderson Cooper came prepared Monday to an interview with a Republican Texas state representative who questions President Barack Obama's citizenship.

Rep. Leo Berman has introduced a bill that would require any candidate for president or vice president of the United States to provide his or her birth certificate to the Texas secretary of state.

"This bill is necessary because we have a president whom the American people don't know whether he was born in Kenya or some other place," Leo Berman, who has represented the 6th District of Texas since 1999, told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

"I don't know anything about President Obama," Berman told Cooper Monday.

"There's a certificate of live birth, which is what the state of Hawaii sends out," Cooper explained. "Why isn't that good enough?"

"Well, because it's not an original birth certificate. It doesn't show the parents' place of birth. And, also, we know for certain that President Obama's father was born in Kenya. Since he was born in Kenya, in -- that was a British protectorate. President Obama was born in 1961. And with his father being a British citizen, at least, President Obama, we think, holds dual citizenship," Berman replied.

"Well, actually, technically that's not correct," Cooper said. "He may have been born with duel citizenship because of the technicality of his father being under the British -- a British subject, being from Kenya, but he automatically lost that in -- at the age of 23."

According to the British Nationality Act of 1948, a person loses his or her citizenship if it isn't claimed by the age of 23.

"And the Hawaii state health director has acknowledged that, back in 2008, she has -- and I quote -- 'personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Senator Obama's original birth certificate -- certificate on record, in accordance with state policies and procedures,'" Cooper continued.

"The governor of Hawaii, who is a Republican, was quoted as saying: 'I had my health director, who is a physician by background, go personally view the birth certificate in the birth records at the Department of Health. We issued a news release at the time saying the president was, in fact, born at Kapi'olani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. And that is just a fact,'" he explained.

1. that man exudes so much hate, so much ugliness...
I could barely stand to watch him. He reminded me of how nasty Zell Miller became and I likewise wonder if this guy isn't suffering from some dementia-related disorder. I give AC credit. He was excruciatingly patient and professional to someone who deserves neither.

the birthers will persist. Anderson does an admirable job but
this crap will never stop. Kudos to AC for trying.

My theory is that birthers can't handle any non white person being better than they, something they should be acclimated to by now.

2. I would have liked Cooper to ask this moron if he'd ever seen the "original" birth certificate
of any other person who ever ran for, or held the office of President. What does he "know" about Ronald Reagan that he doesn't "know" about President Obama? Would he support legislation that would require original birth certificates be produced for everyone who has ever held the office of President so we can confirm that they were in fact eligible to hold that office? And if they couldn't produce the "original" birth certificate for Reagan, would he agree that his name should be stripped from all the buildings and airports etc to which it has been attached?

Idjit. Complete idjit.

4. Yes. Amen, and will they require proof of the 2012 Republican
candidate's citizenship. It will be fascinating to see how uninterested they are in that.

3. Won't change a thing
Birthers, Baggers, Deathers, Tenthers and the rest of the GOP are not now, nor have they ever been, swayed by facts. Their mantra is the now-infamous quote from their gawd, Saint Ronnie of Raygun: "Facts are stupid things."

P.S. How's about a set of quotation marks around the word "logic" in the title of the OP. "Birther logic" is oxymoronic.

5. Good interview....but...
Anderson made a point of saying two or three times "You're a good man..." or "You're an honorable man..." That's such bullshit! The man's a fucking nutjob liar. Why show these people any respect at all?

Sorry for the mini-rant but this is really a pet peeve of mine. I'm so sick of people spreading vicious lies about our president and not being called on that. Anderson may have challenged him on the facts, and that's great, but he didn't call him out on being a vicious liar.

6. Here's how to handle a birther.
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 03:46 PM by drm604
Ask them to produce their own original birth certificate showing their place of birth and their parents' places of birth. Tell them that they should NOT be allowed to vote or run for office until they do so. Inform them that "certificates of live birth" or other documents that are issued by the state after the fact are NOT acceptable. Hold them to their own standards.

7. More alarming than the birther nonsense...
is the fact that this idiot has introduced a bill requiring that presidential and vice presidential candidates provide his/her birth certificate to the TEXAS SECRETARY OF STATE. As if the State of Texas has the ability to decree someone eligible to become President of the United States (or not).

Someone please beat these a-holes over the head with a very heavy copy of the Constitution. Preferably one carved in stone.
