Grandmother throws toddler off 6 story mall walkway - toddler dies
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 02:43 PM by RamboLiberal
McLEAN, Va. — A toddler has died after a woman believed to be her grandmother threw her six stories off a shopping mall walkway in Virginia, police said on Tuesday.

The two-year-old fell from an outdoor walkway at Tysons Corner Center, in McLean, Virginia, on Monday at around 7 p.m., Fairfax County police spokeswoman Tawny Wright told msnbc.com.

Carmela Dela Rosa of Fairfax was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding after the incident, according to police.

The 2-year-old, Dela Rosa and other family members were leaving the mall when the 50-year-old allegedly picked the girl up and threw her off the walkway, Wright said.

2. Aggravated Malicious Wounding?
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 02:46 PM by Drale
WTF is that. How about murder, you just dont through someone off a six story building, if you are not trying to kill them.

8. I'm curious as to why the DA is sure it wasn't premeditated (1st degree)
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 02:50 PM by hlthe2b
though I suppose that would be harder to prove.

9. The charges have been upgraded to murder
THe little girl was alive when the paramedics and police arrived on Monday night, so the grandmother was charged at that time with aggravated malicious wounding. The little girl died the next (this) morning and the police have now upgraded the charges to murder.

4. I'm stunned at the number of people killing children these days. Likely the Mich boys are dead too.
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 02:48 PM by kysrsoze
I cannot understand what drives someone to do something like this to his/her own flesh and blood. Although I'm against the death penalty (mainly due to misapplication of it), this woman deserves it.

What is wrong with our society? We seem to be getting progressively meaner and more violent toward each other. Who gives a shit about terrorists, with all this going on? This is a much more foreboding trend.

the bush years, when bush kept saying how he was protecting us. I kept saying how do people believe this bullshit when everyday you could see it getting worse and worse in this country.,

I believe some people believe/believed this shit because they lived in isolated communities and they believed that they were living in some idyllic wonderland called America.

They can't hide it anymore and for Mcconnell, cantor and the rest of these republiCONS it some of this shit will be coming there way and then they will be begging for us all to come together as a country, but after all of the hate..I say too late. People are losing their damn minds and taking it out on the children..

30. humans are apes. infanticide is relatively common for apes.
killing your own flesh and blood is much more common than killing someone else's. i don't think this woman (or anyone) deserves the death penalty, because the probable facts (mental illness) will mitigate the crime. sad, but this pretty much comes with the territory of being an ape.

to me, it seems our society is actually becoming safer every year (the murder rate keeps falling), but now we know about every bit of mayhem that used to stay local. fear is what's increased, out of all proportion to the actual dangers.

I wonder why this malicious evil wasn't *common* when I was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s.

10. there was plenty of bad shit during the 1950s and 1960s too
a lot of it was hidden from view and without national cable networks and the internet to spread the information, it didn't get noticed as widely.

Sad to say, but there have always been fucked up people out there hurting other people. Always.

15. Regina Chavez.
A little girl in the late 60's who lived in my vicinity.
Someone kidnapped her when she took her dog home that followed her to school.
There has ALWAYS been bad stuff going on but unlike recent high profile abductions with 24-7 cable and media coverage--it stayed local.

that we do not see? Otherwise this woman is a demon.

35. not that I think this is the case here, but
early-onset Alzheimer's isn't that rare.

"Early-onset Alzheimer's has been known to develop between ages 30 and 40, but that's very uncommon. It is more common to see someone in his or her 50s who has the disease. "

34. There are many strange thoughts that go through the minds of people
with that disease. My mother kidnapped a little girl who was visiting the nursing home. She read her calendar from side to side. She thought she was in jail and was continually trying to escape. God only knows what was on her mind as she would never have done such things before.

However at the age of 50 the woman in this story seems too young.

I was not suggesting that every person with Alzheimer's would do any of these things but merely that it seems VERY strange that a grandmother would do this without some very serious problems.

The side is way too high for this to have been an "accident". Un-fucking-believable.

in these terrible times. They snap and the worst happens.
