OFA Tries to Get Supporters to Write Letters to the Editor Praising a Federal Worker Pay Freeze
We’ve officially gone around the bend.

OFA, the organizing arm of the DNC, originally began its life as an organization trying to get someone elected on the platform of hope, change, and progressive policies. You had a public option in health care, cap and trade, a more progressive tax system, diplomacy abroad, and a belief in American values of equality and opportunity.

Here’s what OFA is reduced to. I just got this email:

SNIP

Yesterday, he announced a proposal to freeze pay for non-military federal employees for two years — a plan that will lead to $60 billion in savings over 10 years. It’s one of many tough choices the President has made to cut costs in the upcoming budget to begin to put our nation’s fiscal house in order. And it follows directly from this administration’s dedication to stretching federal dollars and reining in the long-term deficit.

Now, if you listen to some talk radio hosts or a few of the talking heads on cable news, you’ll hear a very different assessment of our fiscal policies. These voices ignore the irresponsibility of the past while pinning the blame for “reckless spending” solely on this administration. It would make a good fairy tale if it weren’t so dangerously untrue.

But these voices — as loud as they are — are spreading bunk. Cutting costs and spending responsibly has been a cornerstone of this administration’s record. And we need your help to get the truth out there.

Will you take a few minutes and write a letter to the editor today to set the record straight?

That’s right, the organizing project of the Democratic National Committee wants you to organize in support of freezing public worker salaries.

SNIP

This is disgusting and makes me glad that I was never a member of OFA. I won't be surprised if OFA asks its members to help Obama's Debt Commission to sell raising the Social Security retirement age for everyone under 55. This weekend, I will peel the Obama bumper sticker from my car.

3. Conform. Comply. Obey.
You're just not grokking this 12 level Vulcan chess, are you? It's okay to admit it. Pissing on working folks in preparation for handing over another $700 billion in tax breaks to the overrich is all part of the plan. You'll see. There's that point at the beginning of the third reel in The Sting when you don't see how it could possibly all work out, but it does!

6. People should absolutely write letters to the editors in newspapers across the U.S.
They should let the President know exactly what they think of his new proposal.

8. OFA has become a total joke.
It's like people that wear t-shirts that have the name of the designer in bold letters on front. We're actually paying to advertise their bullshit.

10. Whatever.
Let me nominate Dr. Atrios for wanker of the week.

This is what we are reduced to, losing a Congressional election and yet still attacking the Democratic President even when he does something sensible.

13. Not from me
In fact, I will withdraw support if that happens. I will ask for my $600 back (and will get it, since it was only a zero percent loan that I made to the Government) and I will not donate another $1,000 this year that I was planning to.

In fact, I am thinking of writing one. Something that compares the savings from the wage freeze to the taz cuts for the rich. $2 that Obama squeezed from working people, and yet Republicans absolutely will not ask anything from those making over $250,000.
