Who has a history of sticking magnetic bombs on car doors as they go by on a motorbike?
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 03:20 AM by Turborama
I'm curious if there are any agencies or groups out there who have a history of doing this...

Assailants on motorbikes stuck magnetic explosives to the cars of two Iranian scientists as they drove to work. Dr Majid Shahriari, a prominent nuclear expert, was killed in one of the attacks, and his wife injured. In a second car Dr Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani and his wife escaped with injuries. The surviving scientist is on a UN list of individuals under sanction for suspected links to secret nuclear activities.

More details here: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/bomb-blast-blamed-on-israel-and-us-kills-iran-nuclear-scientist-2146996.html

Footage of the aftermath of the explosions: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7100041n

On edit: Just a name won't cut it, I'm genuinely interested in hearing about past incidents like this.

2. I know that Israel took out a French Scientist who was assisting the Iraqis
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 03:20 AM by truedelphi
In their efforts to have nuclear power. And then I think Israel went and blew up the nuclear power plant before it was completed.

I believe this was back in the 1980's.

But I had never heard of these exploding magnets.

4. Wasn't that the power plant in Iraq?
Israel openly admits that one.

I hadn't heard about the French scientist before, though...

14. My son had this book for a book report
Way back when he was a frosh in college - and I found it recently

Deliberate Deceptions: Facing the Facts About The U.S.-Israeli Relationship

By Paul Findley.

And that is where I remember reading about the French scientist.

Many on the left don't like Findley as he was buddies with Cheney. However, The book is NOT opinion. A good deal of this book is a rehash of United Nations actions (and sanctions) against Israel, most of which came to naught because of the veto power of the United States.

The book also spells out facts and details about Israel and various operations that it carried out for its own reasons and also sometimes on bequest of the United States. Things that our nation never did (back in the eighties and the early nineties) that Israel was free to do. Like Assassinations, etc.

5. One of the things with stuff that memorable is that a history of it doesn't matter
If Intelligence Organization A gets known for doing something, that means Intelligence Organizations B through Z are probably more likely to consider doing the same thing because it'll make people immediately suspect A.

8. Good point.
Not only that, it isn't really that ingenious of them to think of doing it this way.

21. Consider...

The Saudis and Qataris fund Al Qaeda.

They do not want Iran to have a nuke.

Al Qaeda is known to use magnetically attached IEDs.

What else do you need to know?

23. Seems to me that the Cong in Saigon used to do...
this sort of bombing. Singapore at one time had incidents like this.

Has to be a motorbike when the traffic is really crazy and congested...a car or truck couldn't get away.

25. Taken as written

Still, the assumption that this is US or Mossad is somewhat reflexive.

Clearly, there is no shortage of actors who do not want a nuclear armed Iran.
