A female passenger claims she was made to feel like a terrorist for bringing breast milk she had pumped earlier through security at Phoenix airport.

Stacey Armato was on her way home to Los Angeles to be re-united with her 7-month-old son after a business trip.
She had 12 ounces of breast milk with her and as per TSA guidelines, she requested the milk not be passed through the X-ray scanner because of possible radiation.

Ms Armato, who is a lawyer, had been through Phoenix airport multiple times in the past and had previously filed a complaint about the TSA staff's handling of her breast milk.

1. I'm not saying that we should have to be exposed to these scanners... but scientifically
X-rays cannot impart any lingering radiation to milk. Perhaps a very very high dose of x-rays would cause a chemical change in the milk, but that low-dose x-ray scanner is not going to alter the milk at all.

4. I hope she can find a way to win this fight.
This whole paranoia at the airports thing has gone beyond ridiculous.

6. Considering how many attacks have occured on airplanes
there are legit reasons for such paranoia though I do doubt that the TSA will be able to stop anyone who truly wants to do others harm.

14. Statistically null. Eating an apple carries similar or greater likelihood of death than a terrorist
attack using a plane.

Even adding hijackings to your ledger, you still don't have a significant number compared to the number of flights to justify the reaction.

I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist but the math doesn't add up, we take on more risk every day without a thought.

17. Now that they know the dmg they can cause though
by hijacking one plane I do not think its out of the realm of possibility that they will try to though so the risk has clearly gone up imo.
Mind you I dont think the small % of people getting TSA pat downs are going to be anywhere near as effective as say air marshals on every flight by any stretch of the imagination but its better than nothing being done at all.

16. You mean one for every 200,000 flights over the last 10 years?
And for that you're willing to give up Liberty and Dignity and the 4th Amendment?

12. If you look up Armato's posts, she was flying regularly without incident; then this happened
to her once in February; and she's been flying regularly without incident since. As about two million people fly each day, one might expect a screw-up every now and then. So, yeah, I don't think this qualified as "breaking news"

15. "Ms Armato, who is a lawyer...and had previously filed a complaint"

Oh no, it wasn't "without incident".

Her incidents are likely very well documented.

18. Fair enough: here's what she says: "... I travel every week ... and I almost never had a problem...
until the week before this screening ... I called and complained to TSA and was instructed to travel with the TSA breast milk rules printed out and present them whenever there is a problem. As my items come through security this time, I notice immediately that I was dealing with the same people from the week
before ..."

She also says "... It is a weekly commuter flight b/t PHX and LAX and I don't check luggage. Usually the screening takes 5 extra minutes and lines are short ..."

So two incidents, in two consecutive weeks, apparently involving the same TSA screeners, in late January and early February; but she generally got through screening for her weekly flight in 5 minutes

All quotes are from the youtube in political videos, linked above

10. Wow. Breast milk! That's upping the ante!
Just when I thought we were going to run out of outrageous TSA headlines! It's hard to top stories about grandma being groped, but the hits just keep on coming.
