Newly Appointed Senator Mark Kirk Believes Extending Jobless Benefits is "Misguided"
With one less vote in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has an uphill battle to extend unemployment benefits for up to 2 Million unemployed Americans and another estimated 6 Million plus, 99ers; if newly appointed Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) has his way.

Senator Kirk appeared MSNBC's Morning Joe program on November 29th, stating that he believes extending unemployment benefits without offsetting the cost are "misguided"; while extending the Bush Era Tax Cuts to the wealthiest Americans need to be done no matter what.

"We should extend the Bush tax cuts and make sure we don’t have a double-dip recession. And I have the honor to be the first of ninety-five new Republicans, fiscal conservatives, to help right our ship of state", Kirk stated to host Joe Scarborough question on the Bush Era Tax Cuts.

1. He Wasn't Appointed
Sadly...he was elected. Didn't take long for the slimeball to show he fits right in.

3. Is is appointed now, until the next Congressional Session in January
Then, he is serving the term he was elected to by the voters of the state of Illinois. Either way, he is a fencing flip-flopping piece crap as a Senator but hey....this is what the people of Illinois decided.

6. Nope...Elected
I'm an Illinois resident. Kirk's name was on the ballot twice. First to finish out the remainder of President Obama's term (thanks to Roland Burris & Blago making a deal). Then in January he starts his own 6 year term in his own right. A verrrrrry long six years.

9. He Was Still Elected...
Edited on Mon Nov-29-10 08:53 PM by KharmaTrain
Burris was the one chosen to fill Obama's seat. That's what your link refers to. The Illinois General Assembly, in the wake of the revelations of Blago and Burris making a deal about filling the seat passed a special bill that ended Burris' term upon the results of the November election. Kirk had to wait until the election was officially certified for him to be sworn in (certification was Nov. 16th, he was sworn in yesterday). Had Giannoulis won, he would have been sworn in instead.

As much as I wish it weren't...this slimeball was elected...not selected or appointed.

4. Jayzus, Mark Kirk in Obama's old seat. Sigh.
Unemployment in Illinois is higher than the national average at 9.8%. It's crap that this guy is against extended unemployment bennies.

5. I think he should be placed into the ranks of those unemployed...
Just so he might develop some empathy for them.

Do you think this might help?

Nah.

It wouldn't.

Never mind.
