26. Not in Texas. Obsession with busting folks for pot on the road has been part of the
culture since the 60's. The state has always had huge numbers of folks incarcerated for marijuana "crimes."

46. It's been well understood that if you have California plates
and you're driving through Texas, make sure EVERYTHING on your vehicle is working correctly, you drive no faster than the stated speed limit and you U.P.S. your pot to your destination (in edible form if your destination state has regressive marijuana laws).

49. Yup. In the mid 70's I would drive across country with a couple in a van with CA plates.
He had long hair and would always make his wife and I drive through Texas while he snoozed in the back of the van. Said he didn't want to take any chances.

14. Poor Willie looks tired.
He's done more for the state of Texas than some other Ct. Yankee wannabes ever have. How 'bout some common sense & community service--playing some concerts for those in need. Worked for Farm Aid. Let the old dude alone.

20. An old poem from the 14th century or so crosses my mind
every so often in cases like this:

"The law will hang the man or woman
Who steals a goose from off the Common,
But lets the greater villain loose
Who steals the Common from the goose."

16. Get a load of what that asshole Sheriff says in the article:
'He could get 180 days in county jail... If he does, I'm going to make him cook and clean.'

A 77-year old guy locked up for six months for being a toker. And ol' Arvin West gets his fifteen seconds of fame and sez Willie gotta cook and clean.

Edited on Mon Nov-29-10 07:35 PM by PeaceNikki
Willie Nelson's work on sustainable agriculture, alternative fuels, and world peace initiatives deserve a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize. He's been helping family farmers for over 25 years and has raised awareness of healthy foods while raising funds for the cause.
Also, Willie is the founder of the Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute.

50. I honestly have never met a Texan who didn't love Willie...
Now being in Austin, most of my neighbors support him for a number of reasons. If I had to guess though, I would bet good money that even the anti-marijuana/logic Texans support Willie.

38. Willie Nelson is a hero of mine, he has been for decades
And it has nothing to do with his love for pot. It has to do with his wisdom, it has to do with his caring, his giving, his truthfulness.

Willie Nelson and President Jimmy Carter are two men I admire greatly.

I wish the whole world listened to what this great American had to say.

52. Wish I hadn't clicked
I'm ashamed of myself.

The American punishment fetish runs deep, even in those of us who try to resist it.

Check out this quote from Robert Downey, Jr.: "I am part of a culture that is equally fascinated, disgusted and soothed by the socialization of the random suffering of others."

I think that says it all.
