CIA allegedly implanted electrodes in brains of unsuspecting soldiers

By David Edwards
Monday, November 29th, 2010 -- 12:02 pm

A group of military veterans are suing to get the CIA to come clean about allegedly implanting remote control devices in their brains.

It's well known that the CIA began testing substances like LSD on soldiers beginning in the 1950s but less is known about allegations that the agency implanted electrodes in subjects.

A 2009 lawsuit (.pdf) http://www.vawatchdog.org/09/nf09/nfjan09/jan09files/Edgewood_Complaint%20.pdf claimed that the CIA intended to design and test septal electrodes that would enable them to control human behavior. The lawsuit said that because the government never disclosed the risks, the subjects were not able to give informed consent.s

....................

Erspamer noted that papers filed in the case describe "electrical devices implanted in brain tissue with electrodes in various regions, including the hippocampus, the hypothalamus, the frontal lobe (via the septum), the cortex and various other places."

I used to work in psychiatry and some of our patients would insist this happened to them so I wasn't sure where this was going... it's not "The Onion". :scared:

12. ...now it seems it might be a conspiracy fact!
It's strange that many of the supposedly "crazy conspiracy theories" that I read about in the 90s have proven to be true.

32. No, the "psychologists" from the 3rd reich that we appropriated
Which led to LSD and branwashing experiments on US citizens(MKUltra) which went who knows where after the Church Commission blew the lid off it and they went deeper into the shadows.

34. It's a bit of a leap from "who knows where" to implanted microcircuits that can ...
interface with a brain and control consciousness.

Science and medicine simply don't know how to do this. But you think the CIA can?

What do the animal psychics tell you?

28. So you think the CIA, that bastion of competency...
has figured out how the brain works, and is hiding that knowledge so it can only be used to create assassins? Skip the Nobel Prize; go directly to kill.

I ask myself what in the hell makes some people so thoroughly evil?

Every. Single. Day.

I hope anyone caught up in this atrocity by our own military receives justice. I hope that those who ordered this sick experiment be conducted are exposed and imprisoned.

23. Why do people join the military? Seems like an awfully stupid thing to do.
So many people get fucked over by the military and the VA you'd think people would know better than to take the risk. It's not patriotic! Patriotism is for fools.

Never was a patriot yet, but was a fool. – John Dryden

A patriot is a fool in ev’ry age. – Alexander Pope.

For a lot of kids, it's the only chance they have at an income/education.

I thank the stars the only one of my six who is a vet is out and now in law school....

but VA doctors have messed him up too...I suspect he is in near constant pain.

21. Here's all the explanation that conservatives (of all stripes)will need
from the link:
"There is no question that these experiments were done but defendants say that they used private researchers and test subjects drawn from prisons, hospitals and nursing homes as subjects, not active duty military ," Erspamer said. "CIA said it had no one knowledgeable on this topic."

Conservatives will say, 'ya see there, it wasn't active duty soldiers, it was only done on prisoners and patients who only cost us money so this is a way for them to pay for their services'.

Can anybody point me to a source that could confirm that the technology exists to control behavior with "electrodes" planted in a brain? I feel like I'm late to the party.

An electrode is a contact point. Does it have a battery, logic circuitry? If people have this all figured out, why is there so much research in neural networking?

This is like those flying saucer guys who can control your thoughts and actions with mental telepathy, but just can't resist a little anal probing. To learn what?

26. Who would you believe as source? A government official?
Wikileaks has proven that official sources are probably the last place where you will hear the truth.
If they have this technology they are not going to post the design specs on the internet.

27. So they understand how the brain works but won't share it with psychiatrists?
Is there any published science with results of "electrode implants?"

Of all the people who claim to be implanted has there been one implant found? Is everybody in on this but me? I have friends who study brain function. They don't know anything about this. Am I to believe that fundamental questions of brain functions have been solved behind closed doors (by the CIA no less) without including the scientific community?
