About those teabaggers at Thanksgiving--
I just wanted to announce that there was no such problem here. Some dear (and liberal) friends drove up 180 miles from Madison to spend a couple of days with us. The last of their kids is recently out of the nest, as are ours, so it was just the two couples. We had a wonderful time reconnecting, and are all pretty much on the same page politically.

Then on the weekend, two of my wife's sisters came up for a visit. They are union types, and also very leftish, so it was another gathering with no political strife.

I figured I just had to post this as a counterbalance to all the "Turkey & Teabagger" threads.

1. None at my house either
I'm lucky. The only Tea-Party person in my family is my brother (and losing that distinction week after week due to Palin) and he lives in Minnesota. So, it was just me and my hubby - no tea-baggers there.

3. Whole family got together and not a teabagger among them - my
parents would have been proud.

4. Not sure if they're teabaggers, but I'm definitely the only liberal at the table
Went home to Kansas for Thanksgiving to sister's house. There are two games that we enjoy playing, Set and Apples to Apples. The point of Apples to Apples is that someone draws a card with an adjective on it like, "Fluffy," and all the other players choose from their cards a noun that they think the person will pick to match with, "Fluffy." Whoever's card is picked wins that round, and the next person at the table chooses an adjective card. So depending on the person, you might go off the beaten track and choose, "Festering wounds," and hope the person is sick enough to choose it, or you could play it straight and put down "Kitty." It all depends on what you've drawn from the deck and the type of person.

Well, the card chosen at one point was, "Drama Queen." I just happened to have, "republicans," in my hand of cards so I put that down. It wasn't chosen, and at the end, my step-grand niece demanded to know who put down republicans. I replied, "Well, who do you think?" with a big smile on my face. She wanted to know why so the next 20 seconds I did an unflattering impression of republicans in drama queen mode blaming Obama for everything under the sky and then being forced to recant when the opposite turned out to be true ala, "Obama is raising taxes on everyone! He lowered taxes on 95% of us? Well, he's increasing the deficit! It's gone down? He's destroying the automotive industry! It's stronger than ever?" etc. etc. Needless to say, she wasn't very happy with me.

6. love it

My young nephew asked me to remove an anti-Sarah Palin cartoon (ca. 2008) from the fridge because this might offend his new in-laws who were coming to eat (our food) at our house for the first time. I said no, but felt a little bad about it. I was more sad about his self-censorship than anything else. (PS--There were no political discussions and everything went well).

5. Any tea baggers at my table know to keep their opinions to themselves...
unless they are looking for a fight. Then, I usually just debunk the comment and then say no politics at the table. Hubby hates arguments. It has worked so far, but then it's my house.
