A realization of the country in which we live, in light of WikiLeaks release:
In the wake of the Obama Administration’s reaction to the latest WikiLeaks release, I’ve realized something.

If and when Mr. Assange suddenly dies in a “car crash,” or mysteriously takes too many pain medications, et cetera: Bush, Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, they will all be smiling and laughing, and sleeping sound. Why?

Because they can rest assured that this is a country that dares not prosecute the members of an administration who lied us into an illegal, unconscionable war, but rather threatens to hang those who seek to end it.

Stay strong, Mr. Assange and Pfc. Bradley Manning. Together, we can end the slaughter, we can do it.

73. By an installed president thanks to the SC.Repubs are showing us exactly how the Nazis came to power
It is now clearly shown that had the recount continued Bush would have lost. Thanks to the SC it was a coup'...one that nearly destroyed our democracy as Bush tripled the budget to enrich his friends (Federal budget begins and ends in Oct so Obama was operating on Bush's budget for 9 months which is when the deficit tripled...a fact repubs leave out...just like jobs being lost in the months before and after Obama took office).

Republicans will lead us into complete collapse, while FOX instigates violence toward everyone else. War famine and disease when we had the solutions but voters were too lethargic to prevent the crazies from taking control of government. When have you ever heard a republican or a tea bagger say "I was wrong" or "I lied" but we know it's a daily occurrence.

94. Horrifyngly true.
They Thought They Were Free..

http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/511928.html

An excerpt from
They Thought They Were Free
The Germans, 1933-45
Milton Mayer

But Then It Was Too Late

"What no one seemed to notice," said a colleague of mine, a philologist, "was the ever widening gap, after 1933, between the government and the people. Just think how very wide this gap was to begin with, here in Germany. And it became always wider. You know, it doesn’t make people close to their government to be told that this is a people’s government, a true democracy, or to be enrolled in civilian defense, or even to vote. All this has little, really nothing, to do with knowing one is governing.

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people could not understand it, it could not be released because of national security. And their sense of identification with Hitler, their trust in him, made it easier to widen this gap and reassured those who would otherwise have worried about it.

"This separation of government from people, this widening of the gap, took place so gradually and so insensibly, each step disguised (perhaps not even intentionally) as a temporary emergency measure or associated with true patriotic allegiance or with real social purposes. And all the crises and reforms (real reforms, too) so occupied the people that they did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of government growing remoter and remoter.

<snip>

It gets more and more familiar sounding as you read on..

104. Know one want to discuss the source. It is not just the Bush family or the Cheney Family
or Rumsfelds or the Clintons.

If we need to know a name or two to get started - think Kissinger and Brezyniewski. Then go up the ladder and out from there to understand their umbrella holders and all the entity-associations, roganizations, foundations, think tanks that are under the umbrella. All those people are involved. The planners, the fitters, the decision makers of our lives and the financiers and media and politicians and advisors and lobbyists. It is a vast conspiracy, not just a right wing conspiracy.

The truth hurts - advice to people who don't want to know that some Dems are players in it. The truth is - some Dems are Dems by label only - to maintain the illusion.

112. You are right..and the Powell Memo plays a huge roll in getting this ball rolling.
Edited on Mon Nov-29-10 12:52 PM by BrklynLiberal
His aim was to pick up and continue the conspiracy that Gen Smedley Butler revealed.

It was Nixon who put Powell on the Supreme Court. I would guess that he really had no idea of the Pandora's box he was opening with that nomination...

http://www.reclaimdemocracy.org/corporate_accountability/powell_memo_lewis.html

Introduction
In 1971, Lewis F. Powell, then a corporate lawyer and member of the boards of 11 corporations, wrote a memo to his friend Eugene Sydnor, Jr., the Director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The memorandum was dated August 23, 1971, two months prior to Powell's nomination by President Nixon to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Powell Memo did not become available to the public until long after his confirmation to the Court. It was leaked to Jack Anderson, a liberal syndicated columnist, who stirred interest in the document when he cited it as reason to doubt Powell's legal objectivity. Anderson cautioned that Powell "might use his position on the Supreme Court to put his ideas into practice...in behalf of business interests."

Though Powell's memo was not the sole influence, the Chamber and corporate activists took his advice to heart and began building a powerful array of institutions designed to shift public attitudes and beliefs over the course of years and decades. The memo influenced or inspired the creation of the Heritage Foundation, the Manhattan Institute, the Cato Institute, Citizens for a Sound Economy, Accuracy in Academe, and other powerful organizations. Their long-term focus began paying off handsomely in the 1980s, in coordination with the Reagan Administration's "hands-off business" philosophy.

119. Well, okay, those are actually points. Sometimes an "unrec" *is* a missed button, I grant you
I guess I've just been amazed at what some people are willing to defend, as far as behavior-of-the- powerful, on this board.

And sometimes the "rec/unrec" "wars" become stand-ins for actual conversations on the topic. Which is, of course, pretty silly.

Does anyone actually prefer the "greatest" page to the "discuss" page, anyway?

44. I haven't looked at them, but I guess that what we'd be looking for wouldn't be "So and so, such and
such September 11, 2001."

It's probably going to be more of a connect the dots effort.

At minimum, thus far, there's the fact that the Germans tried to warn us about 9/11 and did not support the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq. I imagine those two facts are connected, but don't have time to go after the details.

51. I'm not a 9/11 conspiracy person. 9/11 was caused by Project for a New American Century's
1997 plan to make war on Iraq.

The 9/11 terrorists were mostly Saudi Arabian, OBL was Saudi Arabian and Saudi Arabia had the most power to lose in the region from just allowing PNAC's plan to go down and make them look like weak fools to the other countries in the region, Iraq in particular, who have significant demographics amongst the same dissident sects of Islam that Saudi Arabia has.

54. Scott Ritter, a weapons inspector in Iraq, talked about this in a book length interview that William
Pitt, over at Truth Out.org, wrote and published at about the same time of the Invasion. They aren't the only ones saying it though.

It makes good sense if you were in Saudi Arabia's shoes. Imagine your big buddy and business partner striking your neighbor, that would look REALLY bad for you. Knowledge of PNAC's plans had to have been pretty common in certain circles, especially amongst BushCo's circle of business partners, including the bin Ladens. PNAC's plan was shopped to Bill Clinton and turned down. Certain American leaders, Senator Jim Webb amongst them, signed letters endorsing PNAC's plan. So, if you were Saudi Arabia and knew about this, would you just stand by and let it all go down and lose your position as de facto leader in the region, or would you, figuring it's going to happen anyway and you're damned if you do and damned if you don't, set up some kind of proactive strike on the U.S., so the other leaders in your region know it was you, = PRESTIGE, but you manage to retain plausible deniability anyway, because OBL is "a black sheep".

for a New American Century is one of her advising groups. That's why she talks about "American Exceptionalism" all of the time. Her current assignment is to help deliver war on Iran. PNAC, afterall, isn't going to just write-off everything it invested in Wars 'r' U.S. > Iraq, without looking for a new franchisee first.

The small inner circle that shapes Palin’s voice day to day includes lobbyist Randy Scheunemann, a director of the neoconservative think tank Project for the New American Century, who advises Palin on foreign affairs, and Kim Daniels, a lawyer with the Thomas More Law Center, which has been called “the Christian answer to the A.C.L.U.,” who advises her on domestic issues.Text

74. You need to look at this about 9/11 by the Existentilist Cowboy

"...Like Hitler's racial claptrap and GOP economic crap, the official theory of 911 makes people feel good about being rich and self-absorbed.

'Terrorists' just hate us, it is believed, because we are 'free'. Are we? Are we free when we are lied to? Are we free when we are so easily manipulated into 'believing' a load of clap trap for which there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever? Are we free when we are clearly trained not to question authority? Are we free when lies become the basis for foreign and domestic policies? Are we free when as a result of right wing policy just one percent of the U.S. populations owns more than the rest of us combined? No!

We are not free until we accept responsibility for our own beliefs!

There is, for example, absolutely no credible or verifiable evidence to support any part of the official conspiracy theory of 911. It is not my purpose here to repeat the numerous refutations of every part of the official theory. It has been thoroughly refuted and debunked and ridiculed and only idiots have not gotten the message: no part of it is true, no part of it is supported by either fact, logic, or admissible evidence. It is thoroughly refuted.

Most recently the very existence of the alleged flights had been debunked with the government's own data! There is no wreckage traceable to Flights 93 or 77; the government's own data --BTS --indicates that Flights 11 and 77 had been mothballed! There was no wreckage traceable to any airliner found at the Pentagon. No hijackers appeared on the official autopsy report of Pentagon victims --the only official shred of evidence relative to the Pentagon. There were no airline passengers or 'hijackers' buried at Arlington National Cemetery. There is absolutely nothing to support anything said by Bush, the 911 Report or the many media minions who parroted this outrageous and absurd conspiracy theory.

Yet --it is believed but only because it was 'official' and espoused by a sitting 'President'. But it was a 'president' who stole his office. We believed it because we were blackmailed not because it was either true or support by facts..."-E-Cowboy

Think about it. The "White shirts" stopped the recount in FL by
violent assault and intimidation which has since been proven that Bush would have lost the election had the recount continued. So Bush was installed by the SC (who had vested interests) which by definition was a coup'. What kind of brain asks if it's okay to torture...severely torture and hunts for an attorney to give him permission to do just that?

Go to the Existentialist Cowboy's web site to see why this GOP is coming to power exactly the same way the Nazis did...and get ready for collapse.

64. Since Assange released a CIA memo a few months ago
in which 'what to do about Wikileaks, and in particular him' was discussed, this is definitely NOT just a theory. It is a Conspiracy yes, verified in the CIA memo, so therefore NOT just a theory.

He released the memo to protect himself. It was around that time that he became more public, making it more difficult for him to be disappeared since now the whole world knows who he is and who has reason to get rid of him.

The memo stated that one way to silence him was to smear him. Seems that is plan A as assassinating people is getting a bit old. But if the smear job doesn't work, and apparently no one with half a brain cell functioning, believes it, who knows if there is a plan B.

But this is NOT Conspiracy 'Theory'. It HAS been verified.

102. The answer is 'yes'.
There has been a CIA within the CIA for decades. There is the 'known' CIA, with dedicated intelligence professionals who care about the nation, and there is a 'hidden' CIA which operates in the dark, in black ops, under the guidance of unknown figures who are not exactly in love with democracy - a kind of CIA 'Skull & Bones' which only the 'right' people find out about which traces all the way back to Dulles.

Do I have any evidence of this? Of course not - but it is the only explanation that holds up and supports the events of the past several decades. Did the CIA kill JFK? No, but this hidden CIA did, and they have the power and connections and the virtually unlimited funding to keep that, and many other things, from coming out by any means from destroying evidence to killing witnesses.

20. Well, FUD seems to be the strategy so far. No surprise.
Going after Assange is part of that. Discredit the source, cast doubt on his motives, etc. And this is much easier if it's one guy, a rapist with venal motives and so on. If you talk about Wikileaks as a large international organization with all sorts of backers - in which Assange is just a figurehead - you can't do that, you have to talk about the material released and the history of Wikileaks and that is not where you want to go.

67. Seems ironic that I watched 3 videos on the government today
I just watched earlier tonight RETHINK AFGHANISTAN by Robert Greenwald. I highly recommend everyone see this.

Then I watched 60 minutes tonight with Anderson Cooper on the Afghanistan situation.

Then I watched THE EDGE OF DARKNESS with Mel Gibson....Awesome.....

It was about government conspiracy and contractors...like Blackwater, XE, KBR...

The Wiki Leaks may be exposing what these videos are saying.

That's my opinion. I'm entitled to it.

Bush and company were NOT entitled to their own facts, though. But lies and more lies continued.

Years ago it was the red scare, except that we've never been driven this far to the edge.

It was such a simple yet dangerous decision - either be driven to the brink, or someone steps up. My thanks to Mr. Assange for exposing this.

Now, we can watch all the media heads go after him as another terrorist.

How will the Republicans exploit this event to their advantage? What laws will they push to further restrict our rights?

I am reserving judgment on this. I'm old enough to remember the Pentagon Papers and the reason for releasing those. I'm waiting to see the big 'smoking gun' in these. I'm not in favor of releasing government documents just because you can; I think there needs to be a reason and not just a fishing expedition.

Now that the thing is done we'll just have to see what's in them and go on from there.

133. The Wikileaks info is no surprise to anyone who has ever read A People's History
I think Howard Zinn got it right. This has never been OUR country; our government has always been about doing what the rich and powerful want. I would go so far as to say the government is actually the enemy of the people. The Bill of Rights was just a sop to keep the masses from revolting completely. So was the New Deal, which did not go far enough to actually help people. Foreign policy is simply to advance the cause of capitalisms. Wars are for expanding markets, nothing more. So if they have to assassinate duly elected leaders of foreign countries in order to do the bidding of corporations, they will.
