The Coverage of the Macy's parade in NYC is horrible.
NBC and CBS are covering it. Both shows are featuring other petticoats on stages. Very little coverage of floats and bands. Lots of TV show promotion. Lots of mindless chit-chat between hosts about their babies. My son would like to see the fracking parade, please, even if it overdoes the commercial and toy promotion.

which has been playing 90 favorite pieces, voted by listeners, this week, and all day today = top 25 or so favorites; down to # 17 now (I think.)

5. It's my husband's favorite Thanksgiving movie
He's watching it on DVD right now, soon to be followed by "A Christmas Story."

I love the Macy's Parade -- it's on my bucket list to see it one day in person.

7. Are they promoting Palin's new book?
I turned off the TV mid week once I saw that it was 24/7 infomercials for her and the book on ALL the channels. Still haven't turned the TV back on.

Thank goodness Bristol didn't win, she woulda been given her own float.

I love the bands and they refuse to let you hear them. Their chatter is so much more important. Rob Weller is the worst chatter.

10. I had it on briefly, and discovered only that Colin Quinn is on Broadway.
I'm rusty on my Revelations, but I seem to recall that's one of the signs of the Apocalypse.

Regardless, after five minutes of that and no parade coverage, we turned it off. :eyes:

14. The parade IS one long commercial.
I turned it on in time to see the Spongebob Squarepants float, with voice over of how you can find him on Facebook and Twitter
with "over 90 thousand fans" and how he has been # 1 show for 9 years, ( also naming the channel).

Sheesh.

Yet another reason for not bothering with tv.

22. It's surreal.
Joan Rivers as the Snow Queen.

A few years ago I remember kids singing and dancing "Good Golly Miss Molly" in front of Macy's... with all its lyrics about a whore house.

At least no one has been attacked by a balloon?

27. I never
realized it was a whore house. I loved to dance to that song....'Devil w/ the Blue Dress.' Weren't those 2 songs entwined in some way????

Shit. Now I can't like Miss Molly anymore. I guess I don't listen to the words that carefully...I'm just dancing to the beat.

Well, after watching the documentary on Joan Rivers this past year, I have more compassion for her. Rent it....you'll see.

A balloon should attack Bloomberg for cutting 10,000 jobs.

31. yes, "good golly miss molly--sure like to BALL"
nothing wrong with that, many classic blues tunes and the original blues artists used sexual slang popular on the black community -- dusting my broom, eatin my potatoes, that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

but modern covers sung in a whitebread world and put into a very wrong context.... yeesh :eyes:

I don't dislike Joan Rivers. I know she was groundbreaking in her early years. But with her plastic surgery, she just added to the surreal quality.

it really gives you insight into the life she faces.

All I gotta say is I can't watch 'Raymond' anymore after what the turd brother said about her at her Roast on Comedy Central.

If only we made as much fun of the boyz as they aged.....

32. you made me think of the graduation ceremonies at the college
where I work.

Every year, without fail, the school accapella group sings "Cecilia"... which I never liked (the melody grates on me)...BUT, that's neither here nor there.

The problem I have with it being sung at the biggest ceremony of the year attended by parents, grandparents and other dignitaries, where college life and achievement are celebrated is, "Makin love in the afternoon with Cecelia up in my bedroom"....

well, on the other hand, I guess catching a quick screw between classes in your dorm or apt. IS an important part of college life!

The economic recovery depends on us to buy buy buy useless crap made in China that we don't need. Really - I saw an add for an electric cork screw in the paper this morning.

I watched about 5 minutes of the "parade" then turned it off - it was one long commercial for crap TV and just crap. What I really hate are the smarmy luxury car commercials and the jewelry ads - especially the one with what's her name and the heart her mom inspired her to design. :puke:

Yeah - cynic, curmudgeon, cranky old cat. That's me.

33. Agreed. I was hoping it would be something my kids could enjoy.
Instead, they are being conditioned to ask for crap that is less useful than the box it is packed in.

I'd like for a parade to highlight the bands and other organizations that worked hard to travel there.

We stopped watching both stations because they showed so little of the parade. Like said here, it is all tv promotion or commercial promotion.

Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 03:30 PM by bhikkhu
I know that suggestion is likely to be taken the wrong way, but there are plenty of good reasons - do something with the people around you, help with the cooking and cleaning and getting the house ready for Thanksgiving, go outside and enjoy some fresh air, say hi to the neighbors...I may be biased as I haven't had a television in years ("a miserable life-stealing soul-sucking mind-destroying TV" as it is also known), but on this of all days why would anybody just plant themselves in front of the tube? Life is better without it, and you are better people without it.
