Hypocrisy, thy name is Bristol
Teabagger math:

(Underage female - husband) + child = skank, slut, Jezebel, or whatever else you want to call her

((Underage female - husband) + child) + mother who thinks being the half-term governor of a state three people live in qualifies her to be president = role model for all of today's impressionable youth

1. Don't forget hard work and Christian values.
The 'cans are supposedly fervent in their admiration of hard work and strong faith. But Jesus preached you can't serve God and Mammon, and that you should forgive seventy times seven. Which translates into Bristol leaving her little boy behind to appear on DWTS (though it's not clear what she starred in...), where she survives the rounds despite comparatively low scores and expresses the wish to deliver a big middle finger to the "haters." :eyes:

should be sentenced as adults.

Odd, isn't it? I don't mean you-- I mean Palin's fans.

Bristol Palin is 20 years old. She's not a child.

36. You don't mean her?
Ever perform an advanced search on that handle? Hardly a Palin thread go by where this individual doesn't take the opportunity to scold the entire board for criticizing these people.

I can also assure you that she doesn't hold young black boys/men in high regard either. (Advanced search is always your friend)

5. No. You know what? This is crap and it's not remotely fair
Bristol Palin made a mistake and lived up to the consequences and has spent her time trying to convince other kids not to make that same mistake. I really have very little to say to people who attack her.

6. what I attack
are the "Christians" who support her. After spending years bashing other unwed mothers they love her. And she can't dance. The little I watched was embarrassing. I've never watched the program but if the other dancers are as bad as she was...glad I don't watch.

8. OK, help me out. Where is the hypocrisy?
Conservatives say that people (and, incidentally, as much as I understand the feminist critique of conservative Christianity, this isn't just "women", but "people") who have sex out of wedlock should live up to the consequences of that. Bristol did. Not only that, she went on to spend her time trying to convince other kids not to make the mistake she did.

Obama was 100% right: Bristol is in the exact same situation his mother was. Using her or her kid as a football pisses me off.

11. If she's a football, it's her mother that started the game.
If you saw her doing her abstinence schtick you'd be very clear that she was doing to at her mother's prodding, when what she'd rather do was stay home, try to keep her thing with Levi together, and take care of her kid. She was forced into the public eye by the Alaskan Harridan, but her choosing to do it rather than stand up to her mother makes her fair game.

And she NEVER framed her abstinence talk as "look at how I fucked up - don't do this, it sucks". Instead, she presented herself as mother of the year.

THAT is hypocrisy.

16. First point - she's no child.
Second point - if one chooses to make a public spectacle of oneself, than one can expect public ridicule.

29. She Uses Her Children Like Props
I agree that a public figure's children and private life should remain so...as long as they keep it so. Here's a lady whose used her children to advance her political career...put them in the public light and continues to do so. I personally have no interest in attacking the younger Palins but if they are put out in the public light then they're going to get scrutiny. Stay private and people will respect their privacy. That said, Bristol went on a national television show and thus is a public figure in her own right now. The fact she's sniping back at her critics only invites more scorn. As my late mother once said, "be bigger"...not petty. The Palins define petty.

Cheers...

35. And that's the point
Read the "math." if Bristol Palin didn't have Sarah Palin for a mother, the "Christians" who run the Republican Party would group her with all the other Jezebels.

The flipside is, if Bristol didn't have the mother she has, maybe she wouldn't have been ashamed to be seen buying condoms with her boyfriend.

24. I don't even see this alleged contradiction
I remember when it first came out she was pregnant and for some reason a lot of people here expected social conservatives to turn on her. Which tells me a lot of people here don't actually listen to what social conservatives say: she acted entirely in accordance with those values, and I don't see where this charge of hypocrisy comes from.

Edited on Fri Nov-26-10 03:30 AM by blueamy66
I am 44 years old, have no children, didn't have any children as an unwed teen, work 40+ hours a week, pay my taxes, go to church every now and then, give to charities and the homeless, help out the little bit of family I have left when they need stuff.....what did I do wrong?

Don't put yourself out into the spotlight if you don't want to be scrutinized and be picked on. Common sense, ya know?

And I say that as the son of a politician. I have no problem telling my father when I disagree with his views, lucky for me he's not a lunatic. That said, maybe to you Palin is the ex-vice presidential candidate, nutjob...etc... But to her Palin is gonna be her Mom. And when someone fucks with your family you will get your back up.

10. I didn't give much thought
to Bristol one way or another until she made her DWTS gig about giving the middle finger to people who hate her or her mom.

I think when you put yourself on the public stage as she has it's not really surprising that there would be people out there who won't like you for various reasons. She's an adult and if she can't take criticism about her dancing performance or understand why people might question her "star" power then she needs to learn to brush it off and not turn it into some revenge thing.

Grace under fire isn't her strong suite that's for sure.
