TSA-Proof Underwear for Travelers, prevents the scanners from peeping at your privates
As travelers head home for Thanksgiving, many are feeling indignant about having to submit to those invasive, full-body scanners at the nation's airports.

But Colorado-based inventor Jeff Buske is offering his best wishes to beleagured flyers in the form of special underwear featuring fig leaf-shaped metallic panels that purportedly prevent the scanners from peeping at your privates. The panels are made from tungsten and other metals designed not to trigger a metal detector.

"We are trying to do our small part to improve general health and enhance dignity," reads a statement on the website of the underwear's maker, Rocky Flats Gear.

Fig leaves not your thing? The undies are also available with floral or clasped hands designs.

2. Yep...
That's right!

I don't get the logic in refusing to be scanned... I guess to some being touched is less invasive than being viewed?

exposure is an issue for many. Especially those already receiving large doses for cancer treatments.

8. Not to mention the risk for women of child-bearing age
and their male partners. I don't trust the government to make sure these machines are kept properly calibrated. Any woman who is pregnant or hopes to be someday really should opt out of being scanned. Men who hope to be fathers might want to think about what these scanners might do to their manly bits, too.

Mark my words. It's only a matter of time before we see a rise in the incidence of birth defects or fertility problems that will be traced to these, especially for those who travel for work and have been exposed several times to this additional radiation.

11. That's one of the reasons you have a choice...
Pat down, or scan.

The rest of your assertions are really out there. Seriously.

10. Most people undergoing radiation treatments...
Don't travel on planes or trains, and they avoid crowds because their immune system is already under attack.

The manufacturer claims you would have to fly 1000 times a year to equal the exposure of one of the new dental low dose x-rays.

That said, this is a company associated with Chertoff... so I think more investigation of their claims is definitely in order; however, if they prove their assertions, the risk is minuscule.

"Whatever else you can say about the backscatter scans, they usually reveal about as much as you do walking around the pool in a tight bathing suit. (Note: A number of the more revealing 'backscatter' pics you find on Google are actually fakes.)"

13. I have a friend traveling soon...
And she is a dentist. She carries a single x-ray film paper clipped to her pocket every day at work to see how much radiation she is getting. She has the new full mouth low dose x-ray machine now, but continues to keep a supply of the single films. She was particularly concerned while working during her pregnancies.

With the old school x-ray machines, she would see a paper clip on the film once in a while. With the new, never. But she wears it anyway, with the thought that perhaps the machine would accidentally leak or some such thing.

She is going to wear her film paper clipped in her pocket for the flights to and from the East Coast this week, and over Christmas. This should be interesting.
