US woman fired over 'abortion poll'

A US woman who set up a website with her husband asking the public to vote on whether or not she should abort her unborn child has been fired from her job.

Pete and Alisha Arnold, both 30, opened an online poll claiming they were unsure if they wanted to be parents.

A question on their website asked: "Should we give birth or have an abortion?"

But the poll was later revealed to be a pro-life hoax, aimed at upsetting abortionists.

Despite the revelation, Mrs Arnold was reportedly fired from her job at the Minneapolis software firm "TempWorks".

1. Despite the revelation?!? I would say that hoaxing is more grounds for the firing than an honest

attempt to gather opinion would have been.

EVERY TIME that some wing-nut gets caught pulling this shit and actually suffers consequences (you remember them - they apply to Dems but not pukes) is a good day.

3. If she lives in a state that allows people to be fired without cause...

then that is legal. You have no free speech rights in a privately owned company.

And if TempWorks is a consulting firm, I certainly wouldn't want to do business with them if they hire such employees.

5. Fired for political activism...

As much as I think their politics are repugnant, I'm not sure I like the idea that they can be fired for this. Although I'm very well aware, as was posted above, the law in many states allows your employer to fire you for any reason at all, or no reason.

If the woman was in a position where she publicly represented her company, there might be a case that her actions could cause harm to the company's reputation. However if she was a back office worker, then I don't buy that justification, although I am happy that the company feels that such obnoxious behavior is something to be concerned about.
