1. And don't forget the most recent news...
How he put the thumb screws to BP is huge... but not getting much play on the news or here.

How about how We the People now own a huge chunk of a very high-earning IPO! GM stock is going up like crazy, they've paid us back the cash, and now we are earning more as stockholders.

But you won't hear about how much money we saved, how many jobs were saved, or how much we are set to gain. Nope. Mum is the word.

Unless I find something I like more. www.purplemoon.com This is not my site; this is where the sticker comes from. I bought one for my car... and I don't do car stickers... that's how much I love this!

The artist has a lot of really cool stuff on that site.

4. I'm still a fan
I was sorry to see an earlier poll where the majority of DUers dissapprove of our President. Perhaps one of them could do better.
It's not a question of what he wants to accomplish, it's a question of what he can accomplish, given the obstructionist opposition and the bigots.

us from the economic and cultural abyss GWB and Cheney created over 8 years of unfettered corruption.

6. I said this earlier but I bears repeating
Obama refuses to given to base emotions like anger and hatred. Even after all the shit that they keep piling on him he shoulders it like MFing Atlas.

Whether people want to admit it or not, having a POTUS that tries to govern on both sides is the only thing keep the top on this pot. The moment Obama slips, and starts talking like he wants a fight. The fight we get is not going to be only played out on TV. Everyone points to how partisan Bushy boy was. However, we didn't threaten to get our guns did we? They have and are willing to.

He is holding this country together, as much as we seem to hate him for it.

9. This post speaks for me!
I'm really about fed up with those who want a dirty fight. Ridiculousness never did us any good, and wanting Obama to fight dirty is utter ridiculousness!

He's taking the high road, and he's governing all of the people, not just Democrats. It makes me wonder if Bush would have gotten as much grief if he had tried to represent all of us.

11. Maybe he would have...
Edited on Mon Nov-22-10 07:49 PM by DFab420
If he had even been actually elected and not appointed by the Supreme Court... "oh snap!"

But yes, I think people forget he is the President of the United States of America. Sometimes that means you swallowing your pride, and changing some legislation. I don't view him as a pragmatist, a sellout, or a democrat. I see him as a man of progressive vision desperately trying to quell a storm that wants to rage so badly.

Remember what happened the last time we all fought each other? 620,000 Americans lost their lives, and those were just enlisted soldiers, no count on civilians.

And by the way..Lincoln agreed to allow slavery in states it already existed in an attempt to subvert war. Do people think that's selling out as well? Would people call Lincoln a coward?

20. I for one do not want him to fight dirty
I just want him to fight.

The people of this country elected him to lead.
A lot of those people do not have any idea where he is leading this country.
That is not a mark of a good leader.

22. I had this discussion twice yesterday...
Once on another board, and again IRL... one thought that never crossed my mind but is pretty apparent... Obama is not getting news coverage. We don't really know what he is or is not doing on a lot of levels. The only coverage he gets is when it can be spun to be bad on him... or even just when they think it can be spun. For example, a headline today read "Obama and Biden to Visit the Epicenter of the Auto Crisis to Convince Workers the Bailout was a Good Thing." Huh? They are still working, the companies have all but paid the money back, and GM is making us a profit! WTF?

Until the WH gets its own in house production news feed, we are at the mercy of the 'librul' media.

10. Oh yea
Don't forget he didn't close a prison down when he didn't have funding or political backing from Congress or the Senate to move the inmates to other prisons or try them in our courts..

But hey it's Obama's fault because he's the president and he has all of the power right? Cause that's how government works. Forget the three branches. Forget security issues of moving high priority inmates.

Forget that The Guantanamo Review Task Force issued a Final Report January 22, 2010,<137> but did not publicly release it until May 28, 2010. The report recommended releasing 126 current detainees to their homes or to a third country, 36 be prosecuted in either federal court or a military commission, and 48 be held indefinitely under the laws of war. In addition, 30 Yemenis were approved for release if security conditions in their home country improve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guantanamo_Bay_detention_camp)

:wtf:

Again. Three branches of Government in this country. If he wants to close it, but the House and Senate won't fund it, and won't allow the prisoners in their states...then what are we supposed to do with them?

First Trial Begins.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/08/guantanamo-trials-gitmo-g_n_675064.html

Exectutive order signed to suspend military trials and shut down facility

On January 22, 2009, the White House announced that President Barack Obama had signed an order to suspend the proceedings of the Guantanamo military commission for 120 days and that the detention facility would be shut down within the year.<8><9>

Judge rejects executive order. Which is how the three branches of government work.

On January 29, 2009, a military judge at Guantánamo rejected the White House request in the case of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, creating an unexpected challenge for the administration as it reviews how America puts Guantánamo detainees on trial.<10>

Senate blocks bill allowing funding for release.

On May 20, 2009, the United States Senate passed an amendment to the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2009 (H.R. 2346) by a 90-6 vote to block funds needed for the transfer or release of prisoners held at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp.<11> As of November 2010, 174 detainees remain at Guantanamo.

From the very same Wikipedia article

In July 2005, 242 detainees were moved out of Guantánamo, including 173 that were released without charge, and 69 transferred to the governments of other countries, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

37. And the rest? And those that were falsley imprisoned and tortured,
has anyone been charged in that?

If we can not prove they were guilty of a crime, there is no justification in keeping them confined, or keeping the prison open.

13. That's a much better laid out site
It's a well laid out site. And does tend to stay within the realm of actual accomplishments, unlike some that try to take credit for things that haven't actually happened yet. I'd quibble with a few of the listed ones, but over all it's fairly well written.

There's alot of missing context to many of the accomplishments, but it is intended as a piece of propaganda, not an actual objective assessment so it does its job very well.

I went, I saw straight through the PR campaign and I yawned.

Tell us the sky is green. The economy is better and better, the wars are winding down and we all have affordable health care. Right.

I liked this one:

Established HealthCare.gov, a web portal for determining and comparing all consumer health insurance and health care options ref,

I've gone there several times. It took me to several companies. I applied to a couple of almost affordable plans and got turned down for pre-existing. Then I came back, got linked to sate of GA plan administered by sucky BC/BS 'Anthem', couldn't afford it either. Neither can any other uninsured people I know . :(
