Prediction: Obama Gets TSA to Back Down, Terror Event Occurs, Congress Attempt Impeachment
Take your pick.

This whole TSA bruhaha is:

1.) being promulgated by the conservative media types...ask yourself why?
2.) being motivated by money and need to "union bust," not civil rights.
3.) a test case to see if Obama will back down on national security, thereby demonstrating his weakness in "keeping America safe."
4.) a trojan horse to get Obama to back down and then hopes for a domestic bombing as a result, which then provides the basis for impeachment.

Just heard Hillary say this morning that SHE wouldn't put up with it if she could avoid it. Methinks she needs to talk to her boss.

3. This policy is poorly thought out and implemented...
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 04:41 PM by hlthe2b
While I do not and never will doubt the outrageous deviousness and unethical tactics of the RW, what is our recourse? Would you have progressives acquiesce to what we know to be BAD and ineffective (not to mention likely unconstitutional) policy to try to preempt this kind of strategy?

No, I would argue that the Obama administration has to wake up, stop fearing criticism by the RW, but build consensus around those measures that are EVIDENCE-BASED to prevent these kind of attacks. Doing what no other democratic country in the world is doing, including those who face terrorist threats continually-- as a first line of defense against terrorism and in the absence of evidence supporting it-- is just plain stupid.

I worry about the ability of the RW to bastardize any decision made or to even promulgate or stage an event. I would put nothing past them. All the more reason for us to be smarter and to educate the American people as to what we are doing (and not doing) and why.

35. And those conservatives would have not the slightest problem
with any pat-down of any type under President Bush/McCain.

They would call it whining and ask if you'd rather be dead.

They would claim it was wimpy to be afraid of the pat down.

hollering and protesting about Obama being weak on security.

6. Well, look at it this way... the airport cargo screening process is getting better
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 04:44 PM by Hawkeye-X
look at the Nambia situation for an airliner heading to Germany. And that was an US test. They caught it.

Albeit a bit late, but still caught it before its final destination, was the two packages from Yemen.

And the airlines are pretty secure since 9/11. They've had lots of unruly passengers, but nothing that a few intelligent passengers and an air marshal can't handle.

Take a look at www.avherald.com for some of those news. That you never see in the US based media. Unless it's hot news or hijacking or a crash or something.

You don't hear about crashes in Indonesia from the US based media - you had to go out on a difference sources elsewhere.

"terror event?" Just what happens if TSA continues (and so far they don't show any indication they will not) with pat downs, screens, and "terror event" still happens? After all a shoe bomber and an underwear bomber were able to get on planes no problems. What will TSA implement next? Full cavity searches? Internal X-ray scans?

21. It is about the people and the nation, not Obama.
Maybe you could think a lot more rationally and clearly if your thoughts did not have to go through an Obama filter.

People don't like virtual strip searches and aggressive groping and the only possible reason is a tin foil plot to take down Obama?

I'd think it is because people aren't hip with the nonsense.

Obama to continue a policy that violates civil rights so blatantly.

Any impeachment is also doomed to fail, like it did with Clinton.

After Bush received a briefing stating that Osama wanted to use planes to attack the US and ignored it to the cost of 3000 american lives and countless war casualties? They can try.

We wouldn't want Obama to mobilize the public to pressure Congress on things like repealing DADT and passing climate change laws. The Republicans need a distraction and fast!

29. Glenn Beck said something similar the other day, only the
opposite. His take on it is Obama is pushing this stuff in order to get the public to demand it be stopped. Then when an attack occurs he will put the blame on the public because they demanded the lax security.
