Chávez alleges $100 mln plot to kill him
Chávez alleges $100 mln plot to kill him

Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez accused a fugitive TV tycoon of being involved in a $100 million reward offer for his assassination.

Idolized by supporters among Venezuela's poor but loathed by many in the business class, former soldier Chávez, 56, has frequently alleged plans to kill him during his more than 11 years at the helm of the South American oil-producer.

"As I understand it from very trustworthy information, they say they have $100 million to give the person who kills me," Chávez said, talking of his political foes in general.

He accused the fugitive boss of pro-opposition TV station Globovision, Guillermo Zuloaga, of being one of those behind the plan. Zuloaga fled to the United States earlier this year after being charged with fraud over his car dealership.

1. I'd like to see the 'very trustworthy information'
Rather than take Hugo's word for it. Until then, I don't think we have much way of knowing whether this is true or just hot air.

But momma always said leaders were like a box of chocolates, you either get coconut, peanut, almond, mostly you get nuts covered in something that looks delicious and makes you want it until you take a bite.

20. Nothing worse than a Democratic coup via independently-monitored elections, is there?
Is there nothing lefties won't stoop to?!

23. Why would he need to stage a coup, when he represents the mass of the people?
If he did, as you claim, why would he have regrets, when he has since been repeatedly re-elected - and saved by the people from a right-wing abduction and coup? Doesn't democracy mean anything to you?

do you think he regrets attempting to take power in such an undemocratic way?

10. That's a pretty odd statement
This isn't a thread about his policies -- it's a thread about his public statement regarding an assassination plot. If he wants people to take him seriously, he needs to provide actual evidence of the plot. Or do you think we should just take everything he says at face value?

You know full well that Chavez cultivates a very high profile and uses provocative statements to enhance his image. It's inevitable that people are going to have a little fun at his expense -- how can you expect them not to?

17. You live in a right-wing madhouse, and you can find it in you to mock
a man who's helping the poor in very large numbers. I don't there's likely to be a meeting of minds here, so pardon me if I break this off....

21. Again, this isn't about his domestic policies
It's about the alleged assassination plot. He didn't reveal the 'very trustworthy information,' so all I said is that we can't actually know if the plot is real or not. Believe it or not, Chavez is capable of being dishonest if doing so will benefit him. I'm capable of it too and I'm guessing you are as well -- most humans are. Just because he helps the poor does not mean he's a perfect person or should be trusted 100 percent in all circumstances. It just means that he helps the poor.

13. Have you ever read the Gospels? If you have, the judgement on you will be all the harder. Alas, I've
never managed to capture the white-hot fury of Christ's diatribes.

Normally, Christ led by example, but there is an instance where he called a man a 'fool' - since his soul would be required of him that night. Just after that man, a farmer, had had another barn erected to house the bumper crop he'd had harvested.

Now what do you think he's going to think of you and your kind ... you know.. the ever esurient rich, even if you didn't attack a man who was pursuing epic endeavours to help the many thousands in need in his country - for no other reason than the greed, violence and sense of entitlement of his and their sworn enemies?

Read the parable of Lazarus and weep.

16. Very deep. You should listen to the guy who mocked the shock-jock, Savage,
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 07:47 PM by Joe Chi Minh
on the Freeway Bogger's blog. When Savage exploded and wailed that he, the caller, didn't know anything about him, he replied I know what you say. Ditto. On this site, nobody's interested in you or your dog, but in what you write.

19. I don't have a dog
It was a quote from a movie.

What one writes is open to the interpretation of the person hearing in many cases.

What one holds dear and revered another does not. And when you don't revere something you can see it in a different light.

Your replies, to me, seem almost automatic - kind of like some of the bots I have programmed over the years, or more to the point like Eliza.

He is a despot who claims to represent the interest of the little guy, when his real interest is power. And if the little guy doesn’t march lockstep with him, the little guy is a counter revolutionary.
