Hallelujah! Our middle son may have finally landed a decent job..
He's a heavy crane operator (steel mill), and when his company (Seattle) went from 3 shifts a day , down to ONE, he lost out in the seniority lotto..by 9 years.

He got a call out of the blue from a place in Champaign, Illinois yesterday, and it really sounds promising. fingers crossed here.

He's a very frugal guy and has 2 roommates, so he's been able to manage on unemployment since March 2009. Washington state considers him in a "protected" group, so they actually paid him extra unemployment so he would not leave the state, but that is running out, and this job may have come just in time..

His "lady-friend" is a teacher who got bumped to "substitute" this school year, so she's going with him if he gets the job:)

fingers crossed..eyes,too:)

3. Good to hear!
I'll keep my fingers crossed with you.

My oldest son, in CA, got laid off in March of '09. He was working and living in Studio City at the time. He promptly gave up his apartment, moved back in with his old roommate in the area he grew up in, and went back to school to finish his degree. Frugal living has gotten him this far. He has a part-time job with the university as a tutor. His unemployment is about gone, though, so he's looking for another part-time job that will allow him to survive so he can finish the 2 degrees he is working on.

5. Thanks.. He hates the thought of leaving Seattle, but
cost of living is a lot less in Illinois, and he would not be stuck out on the far northwest corner of the country, in case it happens again for him..

He will HATE the winters, but he'll get used to them:)

8. That's great news!
Remember how that wouldn't have even been worthy of comment even just a few short years ago? Times have changed a lot.

11. champaign is a great city.
they should like it there but it`s just a tad bit colder than seattle and a lot flatter.big plus is the train to downtown chicago is really cheap!
