When did our local governments stop protecting the public interest?
Edited on Thu May-24-07 12:14 PM by The Backlash Cometh
I just have to ask this, because, the local governments in Florida are out of control. They're not benign government, they are controlled by well-connected people and corporations and there isn't even a group of common citizens who appear to have a clue how it happened.

This is how I see it: here we go about our business believing that our government will represent our side whenever they have to defend it against some individual who sues them for their own personal reasons, but this is what really happens:

(1) Nobody is representing the public side, except, perhaps, environmentalist and conservationist.

(2) Most of the lawsuits which are weakening pro-public government regulation are based on property rights. Property rights is an individual right, but most of the public don't know this. So what happens is, that you get candidates in a community who are supported by small business owners & developers in the city and they HATE government regulation. They're the ones who are using the property rights laws to whittle away at government regulation WHICH PROTECTS THE PUBLIC. So the government responds, capitulating to these property rights special interest groups, and suddenly you find yourself looking at a concrete jungle with no greenspace, and so much private property that you can't step out of your car without trespassing on someone's property! So now the public is pissed at their local government for letting it happen, and they never, NEVER, catch on that they're responsible for it because they voted for the jerk pro-property rights creep who convinced them that property rights is synonymous with good government.

I just want to know, WHEN IS EVERYBODY GOING TO WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!
