Palin book takes aim at some new targets
Source: Yahoo News

In her new book, Sarah Palin takes on everything from "American Idol" to "American Beauty" to "Murphy Brown," revives talk of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and takes issue with JFK's famous religion speech, saying he "wanted to run away from religion."
Who gets praise? Simon Cowell, for one. Barack Obama? Unsurprisingly, not so much — she accuses him of "a stark lack of faith in the American people," among many other things.

<...>

Palin devotes several pages to a discussion of John F. Kennedy's noted speech on religion during the 1960 campaign — a speech many saw as crucial in persuading the country to elect a Catholic president. "I am not the Catholic candidate for president," Kennedy said then. "I am the Democratic Party's candidate for president, who happens also to be a Catholic." Discussing her own faith, Palin writes that JFK's speech "essentially declared religion to be such a private matter that it was irrelevant to the kind of country we are." Kennedy, she says, "seemed to want to run away from religion." She praises Mitt Romney, a Mormon, for not "doing a JFK" during his campaign for the 2008 GOP nomination, but instead speaking forthrightly of how his faith would inform his presidency.

<...>

Palin also returns to the subject of Wright, Obama's controversial former pastor. And she revisits Michelle Obama's comment during the presidential race that "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country."
"I guess this shouldn't surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright's church listening to his rants against America and white people," Palin writes.

1. Yahoo news should be banned from the DU, articles about shit for brains Palin should
be kept in the ALASKA only forums. That way we all won't have to read the the headlines as if it were really "LATEST BREAKING NEWS"

I will un-rec this thread.

2. Right
Because discussions about the likely GOP candidate should be relegated to one state.

3. Agree, but anyway, I still find the one attacking American Idol a reality show hilarious
saying they put on singers who cannot sing, when her daughter is on a reality show and can't dance but the tea baggers keep her on and Palin herself starts a reality show. Unbelievable.

9. Not to mention that more than a couple graduates of Idol have gone
on to very successful singing careers - think poor Bristol (is it Bristol) is going to become a choreographer when this show is over?

27. The GOP will not allow her to be the nominee
She's useful to them for mobilizing certain elements of the Right, but even they know she can't possibly win a presidential election. If she gets into the primaries, we won't even have to lift a finger--they will sabotage her and knock her down.

4. Sounds like she wanted JFK to run as a Catholic and lose to Nixon.
As far as Reverend Wright, Palin should have heard Malcolm during his early years. Wright didn't come close.

5. YAWN, Who gives a flying eff what Sarah thinks about JFK's handling of the religion issue?
Number one, she is ignorant, because it is precisely BECAUSE JFK handled the religion issue the way he did that allows a Mitt Romney to discuss his Mormanism - although from where I stand, it seems to me that Mitt "runs away" from his religion a lot more than JFK ever did.

6. nice gun metaphor there... allow me to expand on it...
Palin takes aim at some new targets.

This is to say that Palin is applying her cognitive skills and hurling cheap, long distance insults at people.

If Palin's cognitive skills were a gun, they would be a cork pop gun, at best.

10. Break the news to her
that movies and TV shows are not real life but written by others. Does she know the difference between entertainment and real life? How about if she does what she praises Romney for and publically declares her religious faith and make it public she is courting the religious right vote (only). She is pandering and using religious people for her own selfish political gains, not for the selfless advancement of the country or spiritual enlightenment. She is Geroge W Bush part two, only not as smart.

16.  "wanted to run away from religion."
As anyone should who is running for President. Or just anyone like myself who runs away from it. This is what I hate about religion in politics. It will soon be our governments policy more than it already is if more like Lady Blah Blah get their way. If you ain't "christian", you ain't American. Fuck that shit.

Sarah Palin's advisors became worried that she was running out of metaphors and making even less sense than usual. One of them suggested she try using a thesaurus.

"Are you kidding me?" Palin laughed in response. "If God wanted me to have a thesaurus he would've told Noah to put a couple of them on his ark so they didn't go extinct."

26. She's dredging up MURPHY BROWN???!!!
A fictional character from a television series that aired its last episode MORE THAN 12 YEARS AGO???!!! How clueless and out-of-touch is she???

Apparently unable to find a single contemporary reference to hold up as a bad role model (in contrast to her daughter, the example she chooses as an appropriate role model), Palin seizes on Murphy Brown, a fictional SITCOM character:

.... But to the critics I say this: Which is the more courageous course for a young, single mother: to sit down and shut up and avoid the critics, or to speak out in a painfully honest way about how tough single parenting is? I'm biased, of course, but give a choice of role models between Bristol and Murphy Brown, I choose Bristol.

http://gawker.com/5692353/sarah-palins-new-book-leaked-excerpts

IIRC, Murphy Brown was a fictional single mother raising her fictional baby IN A TELEVISION SITCOM.

The reference makes absolutely no sense--unless Palin's point is that Murphy Brown's fatal character flaw was that she didn't partner with a narcissistic reality show star to make abstinence/safe sex PSA's that are so ridiculous and laughable that they're probably being pulled at this very moment.

Even giving Palin's remarks the most favorable interpretation possible, they have to leave anyone but the most dead-ender Palinistas with only one thought: I choose Murphy Brown.
