Global Climate Change -- Global Warming -- C-span -- House Hearings --
Trying to watch but limited time --

However, my position here is always that Global Warming is the greatest threat

to our planet and humanity of any that we face -- and it's upon us --

This is the first Panel, evidently -- will be a second panel --

Rep. Brian Baird, Chair -- D/Washington

Amazing that there is actually a Meteorologist from MIT disputing --

Shameful that all of these hearings begun again by Democrats will now probably

be stopped by GOP --

One of the scientists was commenting on some of the best info we have being based

on reports from space -- NASA. He didn't mention it, but I'm quite sure that

W severely limited and changed the mission of NASA taking it out of the earth watch

business.

Gerald Meehl - National Center for Atmospheric Rdsearch - Sr. Scientist

"Greater intensity of persipitation" -- "when it rains it pours!"

"Increasing daily temperatures" --

And the Greenhouse model has been understood since the late 1800's --

"Heat now exceeds cold by 2 to 1" --

Heidi Cullen - CEO & Communications Director -- think she is also a scientist.

"10,000 years of our climate -- relatively stable "

"Greenhouse gas -- carbon dioxide -- everywhere -- WE increased 36% in atmosphere"

"Fingerprinting of CO2 which shows that it is essentially coming from US."

"Our fingerprint on the climate system -- identifiable."

"Extreme weather events are increasing - and are costly --"

"By end of century ... 10 degree increase -- 3 feet sea rise --"

Ralph Cicerone Pres National Academy of Sciences

"CO2 absorbs more heat than oxygen"

"Prevailing view -- abundant evidence -- humans have caused a substanital increase of CO2"

"Enchancing effect -- increasing water vapor - "

Richard Lindzen from MIT Metereoology Professor --

MIT shockingly evasive and nuts.

Part of his thesis: "Thermometers are more sensistive today to heat and cold!"

Baird -- "Today MORE Record highs than record lows -- "

Meehl confirming --

"Weather stations good daily records -- ratio now 2 to 1 --"

"Looked at this ratio we're 2 to 1 now -- a little less decade before that --"

Cullen -- "

Heat days will increase to 20 to 1 by middle of century -- compounds --

"If we continue business as usual Cullins."

Rep. Inglis/R questioning Lindzen -- and interesting how including a denier will distort

and interfere with discussion -- we see the success of that technique here often on websites.

Rep. Roscoe Bartlet/R-Maryland

Wonders why everyone isn't linked in supporting an end to burning fossil fuels?

"Energy outlook we have peaked in conventional oil production -- 65 million barls a day --"

"Chart shows plummeting to 15 million barls by 2025 -- 15 years from now"

"Move to Alternatives -- good reasons to move away from fossil fuel use"

And interesting pro-environment/nature Repug!!

Cullen replies -- "invested infrastructure difficult to change"

She confirms it is clear we need to shift away from fossil fuels"

Lindzner replies -- "Profoundly dishonest!" Amazing that they've allowed this idiot in.

Chairman Baird --

"National interests which are meritorious and policy should be consistent with the

common interest --"

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher/R-CA --

"Trying to mussle an opposition view to the manmade Global Warming travesty!"

Complaining only one witness against Global Warming

"Made a mockery out of science and happy we at least have one witness on the other side!"

"Mankind or natural cycle -- even if manmade, not a major factor but only a minor factor

in what is going on!" And he encourages Lindzen --

and continues on ...

"Scare tactics to get people to accept controls over their lives that they would otherwise

not accept -- trying to frighten the public on an issue to achieve a political end.

And this is one of the worst examples --"

Meehl responds -- "Science gets blurred with political issue --

We're here to discuss science

Baird -- we should all agree that this is no "hoax" --

Second panel came in --

We seem to have another denier -- Patrick Michaels -- CATO INSTITUTE~!

Have to go but will try to catch up with the hearings again later --

Again -- it is really regretful that the hearings that Democrats began on all of the

many subjects to be investigated and discussed -- like Global Warming -- will probably

now be discontinued to GOP!!

1. Watch while you can! If the House holds another hearing in the next two years . . .
. . . it'll feature a fortune-teller "channeling" Michael Crichton from beyond the grave.

4. There's so much to be investigated ... the Afghanistan restoration contracts yesterday!!!
It's obvious they put someone inexperienced and willing to go along in that spot!

2. Link below:
Overall a pretty good hearing. Even a Republican House member from South Carolina disses the deniers. Ben Santer lays the smack down on denier Pat Michaels in panel 2 (starting at about 35:00).

3. Bartlett is absolutely amazing ...
... and he's been a nutjob tea bagger since long before there was a Tea Bagger Movement, and even long before John Waters made "Pecker"

Cause he's using basic common sense at the end -- though he's arguing energy --

but basically.... why don't we just do what makes sense and end this fossil fuel thing!

Also makes sense from the very basis of pollution -- health issues -- eta -- before you

even begin to argue energy.

PLUS, there's a big political argument here -- those who control our natural resources are

made immensely wealthy -- wealthy enough to exert control over our government!

Doesn't help either that oil is hugely important to MIC -- and MIC and president are

invested in controlling it as a "national security issue"!!

Like the "Drug War" there myriad reasons to STOP.

A waste of resources -- and it also creates political/government corruption.

Interesting comments!! :)
