Joe Lieberman's motivations on DADT vote/position...
Edited on Fri Nov-19-10 10:38 AM by HardWorkingDem
Am I mistaken in questioning the motivations of Lieberman on this?

Does he have ulterior motivations? Like, a Manchurian-type motivation, or do most people feel his actions are genuine? With his behavior the past several years, it seems odd to me that he is out front on this issue.

If I'm incorrect, I don't mean to offend.

1. I think it's safe to assume his position is the result of a political calculation, nothing more.
Lieberman has demonstrated repeatedly that the only issue he cares about is increasing the influence of Joe Lieberman.

2. If he's going to be our asshole, let him.

I suppose votes like this are why the rest of the Senate Democrats keep him around.

I'm not especially optimistic on DADT being repealed in the lame-duck session, but if Lieberman helps make it happen, good on him.

Any port in a storm...

3. I'm guessing it's because the vast majority of Americans/Military (read: voters)
are ready to bid adieu to DADT. But I'm happy he's on the 'good side' of this and we'll have his vote, regardless of his motivation.

4. Will he still support it when he finds out Anthony Weiner supports repeal?

5. People aren't black and white. Lieberman has been consistent on gay rights as far as I can tell.

6. I don't trust him. He's too good of buddies with McCain to do something

that so upsets Johnny as allowing gays in his beloved military. Something is up. They're going to make fools out of Democrats--revenge is a dish best served cold.
