Teachers Say Gift Card Is Slap In Face


FLORIDA -- Florida teachers call a gift from the Department of Education nothing more than a slap in the face.

Of all the 160,000 public school teachers in Florida, the state is going to give just one of them, a Chick-fil-A gift certificate.

The lunchtime crowd proves Chick-fil-A is a hot spot. But the offer of a gift card has some Florida teachers hot under the collar.

Only one teacher statewide will win this month's "Teacher Treasures."

"They work so hard and they are underpaid. So it is kind of like a slap in the face for them; one out of 160,000? I'd be really upset," resident Pebbles Carson said.

The Florida Department of Education says it launched "Teacher Treasures" this month to show appreciation.

But some teachers questioned how appreciated are they when the odds are so long and the payoff is a $100 gift card.
