My wife's work place is in a sense chaining her to her desk now.
(Now please note I'm not saying people should goof off totally in the workplace. But some times you need to run to the bathroom or take a minute to regain yourself.)

Her place only allows her one or 2 half hour breaks depending on her schedule and time.

anyways they are switching out the calling system she uses to make calls into this more (intrusive system.)

Not only does she have to ask for a bathroom break but now she has to request to take her lunch break meaning she can be denied a lunch break until they are ready to let her.

But the thing that really is sick is that they can record her between phone calls now. So if she had a bad customer or a bad day and vents about it they can use it against her. She talks to her neighbor and says I don't like this new policy they know it.

I'm sorry I understand respect at the workplace and fair play but I think these actions are way overboard. There has been talk bout making people make up the pee breaks.

1. Sounds like a terrible place to work. Is it a large company
or a small one?

3. welcome to corporatacracy
we are chattel, the sooner we submit, the better...

i am having issues with jobsearching in much the same sense.
I find employers increasingly intrusive and constant;ly feel like i have to either hide my blemishes (poor credit, abusive husband and life in turmoil hence gaps in employment)or just not apply to places that do credit checks or background checks. I may not have any felonies, but god only knows what they can dig up and use against me... hehe, like my liberal leanings!

4. Way to boost morale and improve customer service!
I'll consider that the person I'm talking to on the phone may be sitting in a pool of their own urine the next time I call support or assistance.

As if the work itself wasn't soul sucking enough.

9. Please. Also be kind when it takes forever for something to be done
My wife's computers don't work right half the time. Other times codes that are suppose to work don't and if she has to have supervisor approval to do something or get into certain screens forget it happening quick you might have 2 people helping and serving 80.

6. She needs a doctor's note.For the lunch & bathroom breaks.

Lunch break, she could have hypoglycemia or diabetes (flip sides of same condition -- regulation of blood sugar) and need to eat regular meals.

I believe that urologists have said that holding your urine is harmful and that you should go when you need to go.

If they fire her, for bringing in a doctor's note, then she has a good lawsuit for discrimination and refusing to make an accommodation for her conditions.

I once stood up in court and argued with the judge to get a lunch break at 12:30 in the middle of a hearing. I was starting to get nauseous and dizzy and needed to eat. I used to be a court reporter - the person that sits in front of the witness stand and bangs on a stenograph machine. He did not relent until I said, "My doctor's name is Dr. so and so, you want to call him and ask him about my needing to eat lunch?".

The attorneys were impressed. They were a couple of the top lawyers in the city.

A few years later this judge's court reporter died of respiratory failure at the age of 40. He worked her to death. I'm not kidding. This was a felony court and she had to take time off and type up mandatory appeals in capital cases. When you do that you have to hire another court reporter to do your job and it comes out of your pocket.

I was burned out from the stress of working in court before I was 40 years old. I'm retired now. It drove me completely nuts. And the crazy judges and lawyers did not help any.

I AM a lawyer. Worked and went to night school for five years. I have a Juris Doctor but I do not have a bar card to practice.

GET A DOCTOR'S NOTE FOR BOTH OF THOSE - BATHROOM BREAKS AND LUNCH BREAKS.

Free legal advice.

11. Thanks. I will have her do that. Problem is we have to find her a doctor first
they have 2 levels of insurance. the good kind cost $50 a week (they are paid weekly.) Bad one was $25 and she couldn't find a doctor to take the stuff. She finally dropped it. We at least $25 more dollars a week.

8. Sounds like Ma Bell whom I worked for in the late
sixties when I was a long distance operator. The only redeeming quality the job had was that we were paid pretty well. Once an operator sitting next to me threw up all over the board and me because the supervisors wouldn't relieve her to go to the bathroom to barf. She was pregnant and suffering from morning sickness.

12. i worked at new york telephone
from '79 to '88 in their legal department. they were great to work for. working in an office is different from being an operator. there's much more flexibility.

OMG. i remember when i was pregnant. i barely made it off the subway train before i barfed all over the station.
