Here's Boehner's So-Called "Scheduling Conflict"

Here's John Boehner's "scheduling conflict"
too busy "GRANDSTANDING" to meet with president
by Jed Lewison

You know how John Boehner and the Republicans were too busy to meet with President Obama and Democrats to talk about tax cuts?

Well, here's what caused their "scheduling conflict" -- a press conference...at which Boehner demanded, among other things, that Democrats agree to extend all Bush tax cuts on income over $250,000.

5. Got news for you Boner. You are all gonna have sh*t on your face
when you have to defend tax breaks for the rich because the Dems are in position to make you look like fools. And for two years you and your repuke party did nothing but say no. Well, you will have to keep on doing it. See you in 2012!

6. Well, Obama will have the last laugh cause they'll HAVE to show up when he finally caves in.
This is the fight to pick. I defended the president through the elections. He has to fight for splitting up these tax cuts. If he doesn't, I'm taking a break from politics for a couple of years--just give the GOP enough time to screw up the country until the public starts demanding a second progressive era.

I don't insist on the president winning this tax cut fight. The odds are against him. But I do expect him at least to fight this fight.

8. Our legislators need to "just say no" to any extension
let it expire, and then force the republicans into starting over..

What little the middle-to-lowers actually got was apparently so negligible that they did not even know they got a cut, so what's the problem?

And when Boner screams about it, Obama could say..well, that's what we had planned to discuss, but you were "too busy", so we "moved on"...

and after that, every dem in the house should vote NO, to ANY tax measure that would give a bon mot to people earning over $250K..

11. How is this even a fight?
Congress can do nothing, and the tax cuts expire, like the Republican legislation originally contemplated. Recent polls show that at least a plurality, and possibly a majority, of the public is okay with that. Grown ups understand that the country is hurting financially, the government needs more money to carry out its programs, and the biggest hit will go to those best able to afford it. Besides, any "hike" in taxes can be laid at the feet of the Republicans who passed the original bill 10 years ago.

Result = Win.

Congress can de-couple any contemplated extension of the tax cuts, keeping the lower rates for income less than $250,000, and letting the rate return to its previous level. Who's going to cry about that? The minority Republicans, for sure. I don't think they want to be in the position of defending the wealthy at the expense of everyone else, but if they do, let 'em. The wealthy might squawk, but isn't it about time they shared in the sacrifices that the rest of us have been making to support the two invasions that have profited them so nicely?

Result = Win.

Or, the Democratic majority in both houses of Congress somehow let themselves be rolled again, capitulating to Republican whining on behalf of their affluent puppetmasters, and agree to extend the budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy without any means to pay for it, and letting the Republicans decide to take the big meat ax to assistance to the poor, social security, and Medicare.

Result = Loss.

Come on, Democrats. This isn't rocket surgery.
