Mitch McConnell, unbearable gasbag

WASHINGTON — Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday slammed the Obama administration for the acquittal of a man once held at the Guantanamo Bay prison on almost all of the charges for the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Africa.

Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, 36, a Tanzanian from Zanzibar, had been accused of conspiring in the al Qaeda bomb attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed 224 people.

While accused of 285 counts of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy, he was only convicted by a jury of one count of conspiring to damage or destroy U.S. property. Ghailani will face a minimum of 20 years in prison and possibly the maximum life in prison.

"Yesterday's acquittal in a federal court ... is all the proof we need that the administration's approach to prosecuting terrorists has been deeply misguided and indeed potentially harmful as a matter of national security," McConnell said on the Senate floor. .............(more)

1. Tell Mitch to STFU
He begged Bush to withdraw troops because he was worried ReTHUGS would lose the 2006 elections. He doesn't give a flying fuck about anything but power.

4. I fear no god nor terrorists I am more in terror with
these idiots having any power than of any
outside terrorists. These people attack me every day.
They are more of a threat to national security than any
army could be. They should be all tried for treason.

5. Of course, because if someone is accused of something and then not convicted ...
... that means the courts have failed. Because government, which in McConnell's normal narrative can't do anything right, could never wrongly accuse someone.

6. This sounds like an indictment of the American justice system,
which is really an indictment of American society as a whole.

Well Senator, you say what you want about the Obama administration, but I for one am not going to stand here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!
