"official" ??? I don't know but lets see if we can pair some haves with have-nots and redistribute the wealth as we are so often accused of doing:P

4. Well...
I wouldn't mind a star...
Lets see, have I earned one?
I did drop 7.00 behind a local homeless man the other day, told him he had dropped it while walking by the storefront where I shop for freight salvage goods.
He looked at me funny as I picked it up off the ground and handed it to him. He knew, I knew but sometimes pride gets in the way of asking.
My mother taught me that trick.
But no, I don't think that will get me a star.
Lets see...
Nope, except for doing the right thing by seeing a need and filling it, not much.

18. I'm pretty broke
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 03:05 PM by DiverDave
Been out of work for a bit, but just got hired on
to a trucking company out of Birmingham AL.

Just drove a brand new truck from there to Philly, a bit under 900 miles.
We left yesterday at 5PM EST and got here at 1015 am EST.
We team drove and did pretty good.

I have been helped a couple of times, and I want to help out some folks.
I need a couple of days to get the money from a truck stop and put it in my bank...
I'll drop a line when I can put a charge on my card.
Sorry but I'll only be able to help 4 or 5 people.

God I hate being broke.

Dave...

Anyone that needs help getting a star, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

i really do appreciate it.

i identified with Jean Louise from an early age, when i saw the movie. then when i was older i read the book.

i was also a girl scout for part of my youth, and very much enjoyed that experience.

53. I could use a star right about now
I'm not in dire financial straits, like a lot of people here. It's just that the fund drive is coming at a really bad time. We've had some water damage on our house. The guys are coming to repair the wall that was torn out next week, and we still haven't received our check from the insurance company. Plus we had to put down a $2000 deposit on our floor. I'm just getting slammed right now.

I've donated stars to people in the past, and will definitely do so again. Just not this fund drive.

Thanks!

66. This is hard.
Some of my recent sermons have included comments about how much easier it is to offer help than it is to accept it. Yet I find it incredibly difficult to follow my own advice.

I left DU for well over a year out of shame for having to end my monthly automatic donation. I've come back because the part-time job I've had to take to make ends meet (making the posts about the supposed outrageous salary for clergy sting even more) leave me surrounded by right-wing idiots and I have to come here for sanity checks.

I wish I could give to DU, but I just can't. Some day I'll be able to do so again and when I do, I hope to donate for someone else who needs it as well.

You are a wonderful person for thinking of this.

111. Me, too. Was wondering why all those ads started showing up this morning.
I am embarrassed to again, but my job went away four years ago this June. Haven't had anything permanent since then. If I get the job for which I interviewed last week, I'll pay it back for someone else in my shoes.

116. OK, I read your stuff.
It seems you are legit. I don't want to donate for a newbie with no profile and then have it posted on free republic that liberals are stupid and even gave a troll a star. However, the money goes to DU, so, that would mean a freeper actually benefited a liberal cause. So. Good luck with your causes, I value them also.

a new WPA is what we need. The "Private Sector" is moving to India

Even burger flipping can be done with an internet-using guy in India using, here, robotic arms like those that weld cars. A surgeon overseas did a surgery here using robotic arms. EVERY job here can run to india this way.

The only jobs that will stay HERE... The only GOOD jobs.... are WPA and Co-op jobs. The Private Sector is moving to India.

126. When you click "Donate"

127. See the blue donate thing under "search" upper right hand corner of this page?
click it
then click "make a one time donation" which is the middle of the 3 donation method choices.

Then look at #2 on the page that opens up. It says "Assign Donor Star to" and your name, but you can click "here" to select a different user.
When you do that, a page comes up, you enter the members name in the space where it says "find member" and click on "find member"

If I clicked on your name at that point, several members name come up with variations of "kimi".
I click on the name I want and then proceed to donate.

A start will appear on the person's name after you have completed donation, but they will not know you did it.

Same old story
Haven't worked since the old days
My old teeth
My old house

But maybe the world changing news that is coming per wiki leaks is that we will all be young again, all debts are forgiven, there will be peace on earth.

147. thanks so much chemisse
it is early in the grieving process for us, but it has been hard. This time esp. something seemed to break in us that won't be fixed - we will recover, but not be the same again. Maybe it is our age, too. I remember striking up a conversation with an older couple in REI, 6 months after my beloved girl passed away in 2008 - they'd lost their lab a year earlier. I asked how things were a year later - he said they were doing well, had another dog in the family, but the best way to describe it was that they were a bit less happy than they used to be overall. Some dogs take a bit of you with them when they go.

Aren't elderly dogs just precious? Wishing you as much more time with your dog as you can possibly get - I know you are making the most of it. Hugs to you and your beloved old girl.
