Sarah Palin is CRAZY
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 09:15 AM by erpowers
This morning there was a news report about Sarah Palin's soon to be released book. During the report some excerpts from the book were mentioned. In the book Palin apparently claims her daugther is a better role model than Murphy Brown. She also seems to lash out at reality TV stars.

I would first like to talk about Palin statement concerning Murphy Brown and her daugther Bristol. For anyone who is wondering who is Murphy Brown, she was the main character in a 90s sitcom, who during one season decided to have a child and raise the child as a single mother. In comparing her daugther, Bristol to Murphy Brown Palin said "given a choice of role models between Bristol and Murphy Brown, I choose Bristol". My response to this quote is there are only two or three differences between Murphy Brown and Bristol Palin. First, Murphy Brown was an adult when she became pregnant. Second, Murphy Brown had a job when she became pregnant. I am not sure whether or not Bristol Palin has graduated from high school, but that is the possible third difference. Another difference would be that Murphy Brown and the people around her were not in denial about her having a child. Bristol and her family seem to want to try to somewhat deny the fact that she actually had a child.

Next I would like to take on Palin's attack on reality TV stars. In the book Palin supposedly lashes out at American Idol and the individuals who attempt to make it on the show. How on earth is Palin going to take on talentless reality TV stars when she and her daugther are the talentless stars of a two reality TV shows? The only thing one can think is that she wrote this book before she and her daugther were given the shows.

2. Teen moms are not going to use 'Murphy Brown' as their role model-
because they have no idea who that is. And, as always -WTF is Sarah babbling about this time?

4. Murphy Brown? Wasn't that in the 80s? I barely remember that show
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 09:26 AM by LynneSin
I do remember she had the baby out of wedlock and Dan Quayle made a stink about it.

Since Murphy Brown - dozens of TV women have had children out of wedlock and nobody thinks twice about it. Hell she should have used Rachel Green's out-of-wedlock baby from 'Friends'. At least then she'd be using a reference from the 90s.

9. I do remember her but still that was a long time ago
I figured we could make a list of other unmarried women who had babies out of wedlock. Hell we can go 2000 and go with Nancy Botwin of "Weeds".

16. as long as we are going to use fictional characters to compare to real people....
how about that american teenager show. they had a character who had a kid out of wedlock. was all over the tv. the idea that bristol palin should be a role model boggles my mind. she is a teen mother. there are lots of those all over the US. does she have a job? did she finish school? a teen mom who struggles and finishes school would be a good role model. how about going to college.and i don't count DWTS. i mean a real job. and going around preaching abstinence to teens as a teen mom is not a job either. i am sure someone told her not to have sex.... worked great for her!! how about telling them to use friggin protection!! they may listen to her if she told them that if they are going to do it they should protect themselves!! grr!! but i digress.

22. 80s and 90s
According to Wikipedia the show ran from 1988-1998. So it was in both the 80s and 90s

5. Murphy Brown's child today would be too old to be a teen mother.
Today's teen mothers were not yet conceived when Quayle tried to make her a political issue.

8. Really strange
In 2008, Sarah Palin made a big deal about her daughter's (and her own with a Downs Syndrome child) refusal to have a baby. Bristol, unlike Murphy Brown, is real and the message of 2008 was that the party of "family values" gave her not just compassion, but validation and credit for having a baby - and blasted the left for criticizing her - before anyone did.

So, Dan Quayle blamed a TV show for suggesting to young girls that it was acceptable to have a baby out of wedlock. Yet, in 2008, the Republican defiantly dared anyone attack these two pretty clueless kids. (yet after Obama was elected, these same Republicans attacked an 11 year old Malia Obama for wearing shorts in a picture taken in Rome - where she looked, as always, both appropriate and adorable. )

She must do this or the teabaggers will forget who she is by 2012. They do have short memories.

13. You forgot difference number three -
Murphy Brown chose to become pregnant BEFORE she got pregnant.

She didn't get pregnant accidentally through having unprotected sex with a less than faithful boyfriend.

14. If she has to take a ploy from Dan Quayle's playbook....
...then she obviously doesn't have much going for her. Yes, the lady IS scary but for more substantive reasons than this nonsense in her book.

And, Murphy Brown is just oh-so-'80s.

18. what these idiots seem to forget about the character of murphy brown was that the father LEFT,
freaked out because she was pregnant. the decision to raise the child as a single parent came as a result of that.

anybody remember this line, as she was considering having an abortion? "I think I still have a choice. I haven't checked what the supreme court is doing today"

24. Another difference: MURPHY BROWN WASN'T REAL.
She was a fictional character in a sitcom. Why is Palin even talking about this?

It made no sense when Dan Quayle (another dummy) did it and it makes even less now.
