I realize that the book is based on a letter written before the 2009 inauguration. But it is being, quite predictably, spun as something that's taking up the president's time, when he should be concentrating on "creating jobs." I'm fully aware that this criticism is utter bullshit, but I also know that it provides republicans with a perfect talking-point about how the president is "detached from the problems of ordinary Americans."

I don't know who is to blame for this... President Obama himself, the first lady, Axelrod, Robert Gibbs, Valerie Jarrett, David Plouffe? I don't know, but someone dropped the ball on this. It is, potentially, a big political blunder. And I don't know how the White House people let it pass.

Obama, if he were king, I think would put into place policies that most of us here would like. However, his administration is way too timid, and they have a political tin-ear. And being cowardly and politically obtuse is not a good recipe for success as we face the next two years. And it's not a good recipe if he hopes to serve another term.
