Buck McKeon (ranking R on House Armed Services Committe) Gets His War Hat On
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 08:30 AM by unhappycamper
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (Righthaven LLC? Gannett?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.
To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: Well, Buck, the military is eating up 58% of ALL non-discretionary funding in the 2011 National Budget. Add in interest on the National debt and these adventures are costing 65% of ALL non-discretionary funding in the 2011 National Budget.

Americans are losing jobs, their homes, and their livelihoods.

Do you really need a $40 billion dollar aircraft carrier? Or a $5 billion dollar submarine? Or a $243 million dollar F-35?

Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon said he is worried that the Obama administration and “some in Congress” would use the money saved by defense cuts for non-defense matters.

McKeon: Defense cuts unacceptable
By Rick Maze - Staff writer
Posted : Monday Nov 15, 2010 17:05:27 EST

McKeon, in a Monday speech at the Foreign Policy Institute conference in Washington, D.C., said he is “extremely concerned” about how cuts in wasteful defense programs made by Defense Secretary Robert Gates could be used against the military. Gates has the services looking for $100 billion in savings over the next five years that would be poured back into other defense programs. McKeon said he is worried that the Obama administration and “some in Congress” would instead use the money for non-defense matters.

1. No surprise here.
McKeon was, unfortunately, my Rep for many years before I left the state 5 years ago. I keep hoping the area will turn enough to vote him out, but alas, it hasn't happened.

I am worried that Obama and Congress have NOT ended the wars, brought the troops home, cut the war budget drastically, and re-routed much of that expenditure to domestic programs.
