Howard Kurtz thinks Olberman and Hannity are the same

Posted on | November 11, 2010

Ladies and Gentleman! Howard Kurtz is concerned. Concerned I tell you! So concerned that he went on Countdown yesterday to school Keith Olberman about how bad of a mistake he made by donating $2500 to two Democratic candidates. Kurtz, it seems, is now the judge of the media.

Kurtz said this to Olberman:

“One of the reasons that I think you kind of left yourself vulnerable, Keith, to charges of hypocrisy, is because you have been banging on fox news over the news corp donation and people like Sean Hannity, who has raised money for GOP politicians, and you’ve kind of described him as a shill for the republican party.”

Did you catch that? Kurtz compared what Olberman did to what Hannity and the FOX “News” fundraising machine does every minute of every day. That is laughable. Olberman donated a small amount of money by his own admission after said politicians came on his show, not before. Big difference Howie. And an even bigger difference is that said politicians did not share their fundraising web addresses or beg for money while on his show. Now, let’s compare that to every single show on FOX where every single night during this election season they helped fundraise for every single Republican and Tea Party candidate. To say that Olberman is a hypocrite, which is basically what Kurtz is saying here. is an insult and I am sorry Keith did not call him on it.

Funnier still though is that Howard Kurtz works for CNN, one of the most corporate interested and politically invested news organization on the planet. The only reason Kurtz says what he says on TV is because he is allowed to. Get it? He gets to play concerned journalist on the teevee machine.

Maybe instead of judging others, Mr. Kurtz, you should be doing your job better. If you had done that you would never had made such a poor observation and insulted the viewers by making an even worse comparison.

1. Meh, consider the source...
Howie's one of the biggest right-wing shills in American "journalism" today... no surprise what his opinion of Keith would be. :puke:

...oh, and I do use the term "journalism" quite loosely when it comes to Mr. Kurtz.

2. What I don't like about this same thing comparison is that Fox will lie and continues to lie.
They flame up a story... MSNBC normally is debunking it by the end of the day or featuring them in worst persons or psycho talk...

I would say for the most part, the "story" is presented factually.. then the dialogue is around the subject and perhaps asks for opinionate analysis. When Rachel lead us down the C- street church, the members, and their hand that stretches into politics here and abroud... it was amazing journalism. It wasn't a made up story.

4. They see the "both sides" meme getting some traction on the left after a push from Stewart
They will now be amping it up in an effort to extinguish and delegitimize liberal voices. Paddycake progressives and "sensible centrists" will be aiding them in our movement's destruction.

6. There is nuance here. The type of programs that Hannity and
KO do can be categorized as same. Opinion Journalism
with entertainment as high value and political slant.

Each man is unique and what they say is different.

The category is same. The Content is different
because each man has determined how he will use
the hour.

7. Laughable...
The episode with Whorie on Countdown was a joke. First, shame on Keith for groveling at this "paragon" of the media whose got his own conflicts and rarely mentions them. It's his tactic approval that faux is a "news" organization that gives cover to this propaganda outlet and justification for other villagers to play the false equivlency game. If anything he's the master.

8. I think Howard Kurtz and a pile of dog poo are the same

Howard Kurtz

Pile of dog shit

I lost a lot of respect for Kurtz when he defended Don Imus (in the womens basketball incident) after Imus called him a "boner nosed, beanie wearin Jewboy".

9. Some people can't comprehend anything unless it's really simplified for them.
Just use baby-talk to them, and they won't throw temper tantrums.
