Glenn Beck: Millions will starve when hyperinflation comes January
Cranking up his doomsday predictions to a new fever pitch, Glenn Beck this week warned that by January some 75 million Americans could be starving.

“Brace yourself. We went to two or three experts yesterday,” the Fox News Channel host said in his Wednesday radio broacast. “One of them said that by next year a quarter of this nation will not be able to afford food. … Is it going to happen? At some point, yes. When? I don’t know. I just ask you to please prepare. … Experts are now telling me that it’s happening next year.”

Beck, who for years has counseled listeners to hoard food, has long been warning that a shortage could be right around the corner — just one of many dire predictions, typically related to government malfeasance or related end-times scenarios, that have made Beck a hero of much of the radical right. Now he’s suggesting that the scary corner could be a mere six weeks away.

This time, Beck claimed that certain experts are saying that the Fed’s latest round of “quantitative easing” — a strategy that would effectively put about $600 billion into circulation during the next 12 months — is going to cause hyperinflation, the collapse of the dollar, and ultimately lead to staggeringly high food prices. He cited predictions published Nov. 5 by a group called the National Inflation Association (NIA), one of whose stated goals is to help Americans prepare for “the upcoming hyperinflationary crisis.”

Some sample prices under this post-apocalyptic US:
Two pounds of sugar - $62.21
64 ounces of orange juice - $45.71
11.5-ounce can of Folgers coffee - $77.71
Single 1.55-ounce Hershey bar - $15.50

Statistics from the Bureau of Economic analysis show that grocery prices increased by only 0.06% overall in the third quarter (July-September) of 2010. And prices for fruits and vegetables, bakery, and canned goods actually declined. If hyperinflation is imminent, it is getting off to a colossally slow start.

http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2010/11/12/glenn-beck-a-quarter-of-americans-may-face-starvation/

I saw some posts by right wingers on another forum talking about how the prices of food are going to go up several hundred times, and "then all the liberals will starve. Haha!", now I know where it came from.

Well, remember this post in January. If you truly have to fill your car with money and then push it to the grocery store so you can just buy milk and eggs, then we will finally know that Glenn Beck was actually right.

22. A years worth of canned food? Figure 6 cans a day, time 365 days,
that's well over 2000 cans.

Get busy.

I remember seeing the home page of becKKKs website a few weeks ago - prominently displayed was a link to some whacko (or should that be Waco) survivalist MRE jibberish. He is, quite literally, in the business of catering to the fears of people who are very emotionally invested in preparing for Armageddon.

says he is going to make a pantry. it's a good idea to have SOME food stored for storms and such. but a year?? i almost wanted to ask him if he was going to build himself a bunker too. but i bit my tongue.

They are a major sponsor on his show. Their advertisements
are on his show all of the time. I'm sure he gets a cut of

Can you believe this?

And the people who listen to this guy--think they're so extra
special and smart for doing so?

I mean seriously. How obvious can the bamboozling be.

The Gold Buggers have used this hyper-inflation line since the 1970's.

The $600 billion the Fed put into our economy sounds like a lot of money to those that don't understand it's just a drop in the bucket.

Current commodity prices on the CBOE say Beck is dead wrong.

11. I don't want to sound dumb,
but isn't the kind of true:

Won't the printing of $600 billion devalue the dollar, thus causing inflation?

21. One of Beck's sponsors is a food-supply company!!!!
I only have a minute to post about this (will post more later and others can do
their own due diligence), but one of Glenn Beck's major sponsors is a company
that sells packaged and canned food that has a very long shelf life.

Beck is engaging in the same kind of fearmongering, smarmy sales tactics that he
did with the gold advertisers. He whipped his listeners up into a frenzy, convincing
them that they needed to hoard gold for the impending difficult times.

Now, he is at with--insisting that people must hoard food and have a stockpile for
their family, if they are to survive what is coming. I listen to Beck sometimes, and
he tells his audience that he loves and cares about them and that he is stockpiling
this food and that they must do the same.

Then, you hear a commercial for this food company!!!!

Last week, Beck told his audience that the average person has 25k worth of stuff that they could
sell in their house on Ebay, or in garage sales. He then encouraged his listeners to use that
money to buy their food stockpile!!!!!

People, this is SICK!!! He's pedaling the services and products of a company---while terrorizing
people into buying it!

If you buy it from Baxter Labs.

The most surprising thing about Louisiana’s new drug pricing lawsuit is the allegation, buried on page 12, that Baxter International (BAX) sold salt and sugar to Medicaid for $928 a bag. That fact alone tells you all you need to know about why healthcare costs in the U.S. are going up when they could be coming down: The law allows drug companies to rook state Medicaid and federal Medicare programs by preventing the agencies from negotiating drug prices.

This moron has no comprehension of basic economics.

We are presently trending toward disinflation. Bernanke is simply inflation targeting. Will prices go up? Yes....but not to this extreme.

Historically, the American economy has always done its best with a 3-5% inflation rate.
