Awesome "Palin's Alaska" review in New Yorker

I've never read a better description of her:

"When it comes to Palin specifically, there is the fundamental problem that some of us don’t want to see or hear any more of her than we have to. And there are those whose objections have a physiological basis as well as an ideological one: the pitch and timbre of her voice, the rhythms of her speech, her syntax, and the way she coats acid and incoherence with cheery musical inflections join together in a sickening synergy that distresses the listener, triggering a fight-or-flight reaction. When Palin talks, my whole being wails, like Nancy Kerrigan after Tonya Harding’s ex-husband kneecapped her: “Why? Why? Why?”

4. omg that is totally it! whenever i hear that voice i just cringe.

like fingernails on a chalkboard. acck! while i could care less if she has a show that i don't have to watch, the endless commercials every five minutes on EVERY friggin channel makes me sick. have the damned show just only have your damned commercials on channels where people seem to like to hear her voice or don't have her on the damned commercials. my idea would be just to have a 10 second commercial that just say the name and time of the show and what channel it is on and flashes a quick picture of her and her family with no talking from anyone but an announcer. there. then i can ignore it like i do everything else.

Who is this woman, this fruit bat in fleece and Gore-Tex, clenching the side of the rock face above a glacier, screaming "Tahhd! Tahhd!" at her husband, piercing the tranquillity of the Alaskan paradise?

Isn't this the kind of person whom forest rangers usually despise? The one whose loud command to heed the bears actually startles the bears? The hapless camper whom taxpayers have to rescue at great expense after she loses her Verizon signal and gets hopelessly disoriented?

Subtextually, "Sarah Palin's Alaska" underscores her most essential persona: brave frontier woman. I don't know if she wants to be president so much as she wants to be this century's answer to Laura Ingalls Wilder, whose little house in the woods has WiFi and open floor plans. "No boys upstairs!" Mama Grizzly barks at her teenage daughter, Willow, who is entertaining a young lad named Andy.

Palin wants us to know that she is uniquely, fiercely of the backcountry, a Lenscrafted denizen of the farthest and most genuine sort of America you can find, but one that can only be accessed by the rogue use of motorized vehicles. Along with the huskies and grizzlies, here come the dirt bikes, the ATVs, the choppers, the snow machines. This is a show about grabbing what's yours, or getting the heck out of the way while someone else blows through.

commercials I have seen, however, I would advise turning off the sound. Her voice is too much to take. Since I have seen the scenery up close and in person I don't need her in the picture ruining it. I won't be watching.

The review sounds spot on. I won't watch the show, nor do I know anyone who will (except probably my mother dammit) but don't be surprised if it's a smash hit. The more negativity she gets, the crazier her batshit fans become in support of her.
